I'm afraid I am going to show my ignorance here so please be gentle with me.

All I know about star DAS/Xentry is its what my mechanic uses to service my car, diagnose any faults and to add hardware support to any additional equipment I try and add if needed, but like many people here I am a gadget freak and would love a star system myself

I've even looked into purchasing something from that famous auction site we all know and love/hate but I cannot justify the costs for a complete star system and I'm not even sure exactly what is required if I did decide to spend some money I haven't really got spare! Especially since I have a an obd2 reader that I bought when I had a CLK and that works reasonably well with my SLK for diagnostics and turning off engine lights etc as well. In addition to that I havs a cheapo bluetooth device that works quite well with tórque pro so when I saw this thread I kind of got the idea this might just be the answer to my future diagnostic wants/needs!

Obviously I have already got a laptop with windows 10 installed to use with the above system it even has bluetooth built in and I have a spare bluetooth dongle very similar to the one shown on the link posted above (I think it is the 32bit "home" edition although I use a tower computer system (I7 windows professional 64bit) or a galaxy 10" tablet computer most of the time.

So my questions are:
1) Do I need to buy anything additional to the VAS5054A oki (with support for UDS & ODIS whatever that is) system that is linked to in this thread?
2) Do I need to purchase any additional software?
3) Will the above system do everything a Star system with developers mode can do? (for example like add a reversing camera to my comand system? rather than paying someone else to do it as I recently have)
4) The price mentioned above is £58 but the advert on the link says £36.73 - £45.25 I assumed that means a one off order is £45.25 plus vat is that correct?)
5) Finally i860 has very kindly offered to help others interested in this system to set it up, is it difficult/complicated to get this working?

Sorry for asking so many stupid basic questions but if I don't ask I will never know and perhaps my "dumb" questions might help other members as well as me.

Vas obd arrived today, I had all prepared windows with xentry/das and I test it on my slk and my w204 c280.
As you can see all the module can be read and accessible.
So anyone can own a star system now.
If you are for it buy the vas obd oki and I can help you with the installation, please PM me for more info.

Subject to the reply on my previous post I might well take you up on your kind offer, unfortunately I will probably need a lot of help as I am more than a little out of date in technical terms and a complete novice in respect of what Star is capable of doing.
TIA

With VAS5054a you can do programing but not SCN coding.
You can buy any vas5054a with oki chip.
If you need more details send me a PM

Any slk with can bus ( mine is from 2004) or any Mercedes car with can bus communication.
All codes read/clear, all adaptation enable, all tests working. I am helping a chap in california with his car and all yesterday we test the intake manifold, the test confirmed that the flaps are stuck open, alo you can see the butterfly snap.
I did a compression test on me9.7 ecu

Yes, no vas50554 will be listed as working with mercede. And you don't what that I am sure the price will rise if they know you can use it on mercededs.
As long it is vas5054 with oki chip.

You need the hardware, the software that comes with(odis 4.3.3) that it can't be used on Mercedes, need special software.

Sorry, totally confused. What does buying the kit mentioned in this discussion give one? Is there additional software and hardware required and if so is this available and an idea of cost.

Any chance of an 'How To' on this?

I can install everything remotely. Pm me for more details.

slk r171 55 amg kline not working

That is a bummer. I wasn't aware they ran different communication types on different models. That seems odd to use 2 different wiring harnesses.

This is what i have been reading. I don't have a slk 200 or 55amg to test. That's why i can't comment. Don't want for users to buy the device and to find is not working.
When i will have car to test on i will report back.

This works on the newer models right? Wife has a 2014 GL450, so I will buy it if it works on that and try it on my 55.

Now... is a little hope for people with slk 200/slk 55 amg with kline
Just quickly did a test on an old slk r170 230 kompresor 2002 k line and manage to communicate in das.
Only the engine module is accessible and all the function are working.
Besides that nothing is accessible, but most of the module are accesible win htt not das any way.
So if anyone near Poole is willing to meet to test my tool on an slk r171 200 or slk r171 55 amg I will be able to see if kline is working or not.
