Here's the problem, having been down this road before!


The "standard" MB hood emblem is 45mm, or 50mm with the roundel. Boot emblems are 50mm to 60mm.

The MB star on the "standard" shifter is 28mm, with a roundel of 2mm. The ones I looked at were all way to big, and putting them on the lathe and turning them down would really impact the logos...

Still keep my eyes open! ;-)

EDITED : Anyone got a caliper handy? Just thought about it - I *think* the AMG aluminum disk is the same 30mm, but I never measured mine before I sold it on...

I was thinking that if someone somewhere has made all those emblems, then they might be able to turn out a version for the gear shift, if you asked nicely.

Personally, I'd prefer an engraved version, that colour version jars to my eye.

So a quick google for "amg gear shift emblem" brought up a post in another forum where someone confirmed it is glued on his W210. So it simply needs a carefully applied screwdriver to lift it off.

the knobs in the SLK55 are bonded together, no amount of prying will get the cap to separate.

This is what I have on mine. It's a plastic cap that I super duper glued on. Doesn't move and I tend to leave my top down where it can heat up. Still hasn't come off in over a year.

Reviving an old thread:

I recently sourced out a previously owned SLK55 gear shift knob from a fellow forum member (foxyboy) from the land of Oz. I then forwarded it to a very pleasant fellow (also a forum member) after getting a PM from SLK320Chick, to see if he can use his talents and skills.

This came to greet me last night via parcel post from Arizona after working 12 hours:





This morning, having an hour to spare before going for more EMR software training, I was able to remove the blank OEM one and install the etched gear-shift knob (see photo below):





Many thanks to Michael at blackrose-etching.com for the several emails and getting the "project" accomplished :tu:

The difference from aquascape's is this one is etched, so one can feel the "grooves" and it is not chrome-like shiny but follows the OEM flat aluminum finish.

Does anyone know of a source who can laser-etch or engrave the Affalterbach crest (like the ones found on Black Series C63 507 edition or on the Black series SLK R171)?

The formymercedes site now states that this doesn't fit the R171 SLK else I would have purchased it. Can anyone confirm that they purchased this recently and it fits?

did you read it wrong? if says if yours is oval. Mine is round

This emblem measures 27mm or 1-1/16 inch in diameter. If your factory emblem is oval - it will not fit your R171 SLK.
