Hey everyone,

I am so stoked to be purchasing a 2003 slk32 AMG, I have looked for pulley upgrades but everything seems to be dead links or 3,000 which seems a bit ridiculous. Does anyone know of a reasonable vendor that sells either a crank pulley or supercharger pulley? I know its redundant but all searches have been leading me nowhere. Anyways superstoked to pick up my car this weekend and drive her home !

I am happy with it. it is the only mod I have done. Put it on a Dino afterward and it made 311 wheel hp. I am not DYI, my indy took about an hour. Hope that has some value for you. There are a couple of 32 gurus on here that can provide more information and Eurcharge and Needswings are helpful too. ECU tune is required! Eurocharged provided that too.

The most reliable supercharger pulley upgrade is to machine down the stock pulley from 74mm to 69mm, and have eurocharged or others put a tune on it. The stock belt still fits. This with tune is probably good for 30 hp., very noticeable because boost increase is across the rpm range and the tune will improve throttle response. This is very low risk.
There is a seller on ebay with machined stock pulley for $699, and $150 rebate if you send them yours.

The other solutions with much smaller pulleys for the supercharger are more commonly aluminum and prone to failure from fatigue, sometimes spectacularly. Better add the scatter shield if you do, or you will be buying a new hood too. The much smaller radius also invites belt slippage and fatigue, and requires non standard belt. If a SC pulley can be found in stainless or titanium, it might be worth a try..

The crank pulley will certainly have the biggest effect, but costs more, needs a non standard belt, and overspeed's all the accessories. If going this route, you might as well combine with the machined SC pulley for maximum effect, and get one tune session. Turn off traction control at your peril, and the car will need frequent new rear tires. This is well over 400 hp at the flywheel.

Increased boost pressure will increase intake air Temps dramatically, and hot weather can provoke the ecu to mute performance or even disengage the SC with overtemp faults, so, if adding alot more boost you will need a better intercooler pump to increase flow, use Johnson 10-24489-03 CM30 12V 3/4" Pump.

Its a slippery slope you are on...hehe

Next mod is cams, gives it a mean sexy idle and another bump in hp. More money.
Annnd, probably bigger injectors.

And if you do all that, best upgrade the differential, as this is the weakest link in the drivetrain.
These cars can get close to 500 hp, but without drag slicks it can't be connected to the pavement. See the dragtimes web site for '32 and srt/6 times, some of the reports give the recipe for speed they used.

My SLK32 is a relatively pristine 32k miles example, and the most I would do is machine the SC pulley and tune, then swap wheels for ultralight forged ones to lose over 40 lbs of unsprung mass and rotating inertia.
Even without mods it is a joy to drive and will light up the traction control at will, even over 50mph. Stories of melted pistons and other gruesome costly failures curb my enthusiasm for more. If I had a '32 that wasn't as nice that could get down and dirty, this mod list would have been implemented.

Happy Motoring...

1st paragraph is where I think I will go, I have a pulled 230 right now and it's fun but not fast, I just want a reliable bump but not too the point I can only drive it on beautiful sunny days. Thank you for the info I really appreciate it. I may drive it home on Saturday and decide this is fun enough :)

Cheers

I have a new supercharger 65MM pulley in the box. It is steel, not aluminum. I had an aluminum 65MM come apart on me,It ate my engine cover and some hoses. I checked with the Crossfire guys. Red Dog put me in-touch with the MFG of the steel pulley. I have it on my car. The spare is in the box.

I also have the single tube Needs Wings, off to sell as removed from my 2003 SLK32 AMG. I need a larger toy car due to family addition. I had that, the 65MM pulley and a tune. All made a big improvement. Gary call or Text: 3307045686

Well a 2 weeks in and I am in love, drove her back from LA to Portland, Oregon. No issues on the grapevine or the NoCal/Oregon passes, drove like a champ. Gonna look at tune up specs and basic maint stuff now. Starting to get used to the power difference from my 230, looking at pullies and tunes now :D Wonderful wonderful car so far !

Ok... I began with the 65mm pulley, a ECU and TCU tune from Jerry @ Eurocharged, the TCU flash allows you to use the slap shifter and actually hold gears. This led to installing a dual cold air intake I built with a silicone Y from Victory Performance. I was losing boost due to increased intake air temps and under hard acceleration I was smoking one tire and had issues in the corners. I installed drilled discs all around, 17” AMG monoblocks the same width on all corners, and Bilstien HD shocks. I got a super cooler from Needswings, it’s a radiator to replace the factory radiator in the water to air Inter cooler and is about 6 times larger increasing both surface area and system volume - this required some fabrication as it’s made for the crossfire and there is nothing to mount it to in the 32. To this I added the isolation valves separating the engine coolant from the Intercooler coolant. To increase airflow through the radiator and Intercooler i cut a small hole in the low pressure zone of the hood. I installed a crank case ventilation catch can so all the vapors don’t get fed back through the intake tract gumming it up, then installed a Wavetrack Torsen LSD, then a set of 550cc injectors and an adjusted time on a Dyno. With correction I’m running about 430 hp which in my opinion is about the max for a street driven car. That said I’m adding another 30hp or so with ported intake manifolds with crossovers from Needs wings.

Other than that I pulled the interior and stripped it of the gray rubber so it’s all black, replaced the green looking wood with the reddish cherry wood, installed a 7” flip up screen stereo that links to an OBDII wifi dongle and lets me monitor all engine functions, or get navigation from my phone which slots into a holder on the center console and I added a Smart Top module so that the top can be opened or closed from the remote.

I eliminated the secondary cats and the exhaust resonator and in its place installed an exhaust cutout.

Next is some decent seats as the stock ones would be better on a mobility scooter and a Wide band AFR gauge, volt gauge and possibly indicator lights for the supercharger pulley and coolant pump.

It’s a slippery slope for sure...

Gary, gjslutz has kindly replied to me with details of the SLK32 pulley that he had listed for sale - it comes from a seller in Poland.

It is described as 65mm, and all-steel construction - at 5 zloty to the pound, that's around £320, plus import taxes thanks to the brexit idiots :(
