Took my wife's C320 in for brake pads. She saw the message in the display and went right over to the MB dealer. The car has about 25K miles.
After inspection, they were 'happy' to report that it only needed pads and not replacement rotors. I said that there was no warning (grinding, reduction of braking ability) to signal that the pads were overdone. The reply was that the pads needed replacement, but hadn't damaged the rotors. They told me that MB rotors need to be changed often and that by the next change of brake pads, maybe 40-50K miles, we would need new rotors on the car.
So, fellow SLK owners out there with higher mileage than the 6K miles on my machine, do you regularly change rotors? Those that have other MB models, do you have to change your rotors approx. every other change of brake pads?
Seems excessive to me as I've had American cars with close to 100K miles that never needed rotor replacement.
F)Thanks!
