Year of modification option code

I just noticed that when looking for parts, some of them may or may not be compatible with your specific vehicle.

For example, mine has option 802 in the datacard, meaning that my vehicle is from 2011.

Now, when I look to buy parts, more specifically, the distronic computer, there are several, and the difference between then is the Year of modification (or YoM or AEJ).

I am not sure, at this point, how important of a factor, this is.

For instance, in the attached images, there is a list of all available control units for distronic, that are supposed to be placed in the passenger footwell.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But first, some option codes and their meaning:
- 053 - YoM 12/02 (year/month)
- 801 - YoM 10/01
- 802 - YoM 11/01
- 803 - YoM 12/01
- 233 - distronic

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now if you check the list:
The first two entries have the following option codes: 233+801/233+802
Meaning it's suitable for (distronic AND YoM 11/01) OR (distronic AND YoM 12/01)

The third row has: -053+233+803
Meaning it's (NOT suitable for YoM 12/02) AND distronic AND YoM 12/01

The fourth row: 053+233+803
Meaning it's suitable for YoM 12/02 AND distronic AND YoM 12/01

The last row: 233
Meaning it's suitable for distronic

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So far so good, but if you take a closer look, you will notice that some incompatibilities are not mentioned.

For example, in the first two lines, it is saying that it CAN be either 801 or 802 (but doesn't say it CAN'T be 803 or 053).

Third row explicitly specifying that it CAN'T be 053 and it CAN be 803. Since 803 is a more recent YoM, does it mean that 802 and 801 are not mentioned, because of backwards compatibility?

The last row doesn't specify anything except 233. Meaning that this component is compatible on all years (since it's also not explicit on NOT SUITABLE for some YoM, like in the case of the third row)?

Perhaps @JudgeMing will know more, but I'm posting it here, in hopes that this info will be useful for future DiY-ers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S.
I stumbled upon this, when noticing that this component is listed twice, on this post:
https://www.slkworld.com/4379791-post26.html
And after checking the differences, I saw that the only thing that differs is the YoM option.
@JudgeMing Can you maybe update that post, and clarify the reason that you listed both of the same component, so others will not be induced in error?
Did you go with A0009002302 in the end? (Your's is a 2012 model)

I am now looking at the rear radar sensor for Blind spot assist and for distronic.
A0009050110 - costs between 150-200 Euros - is not valid for 053 YoM 12/2
A0009055701 - costs 100 Euros, it's more commonly available - is valid for 053, along with 803 and onwards YoMs

BUT from 804 and onwards, the 053 is no longer mentioned.
How should I interpret this? 053 is MANDATORY for 803, and doesn't matter for 804 onwards?

If that's the case, then for the passenger control unit DTR (passenger footwell), I should probably get also the one that has option 053?
Meaning I shouldn't get A0009007300, which has 802 (my YoM, which doesn't mention 053), instead A0009005601 which is valid for 053, but has YoM 803?

This is exhausting...!!! :))) Fingers crossed that Steve Krabbenborg will be able to flash all these (messy) components I'm getting myself into...
