SOS Inoperative message

I just started getting the "SOS Inoperative" message on the drivers information display. I notice that the SOS button is not lit up, which I believe it used to be. I do not and never did have a subscription to Mbrace, if that matters. I believe that, since I didn't have an Mbrace subscription, the SOS function was never usable anyway. So, is there some way to permanently just get rid of the "SOS Inoperative" message which keeps popping up about once a minute? By the way, this is a 2012 MY, which I understand has different Mbrace hardware than the 2013 on later MYs. Thanks.

Problem was resolved by replacing the "Teleaid Control Unit". As far as I can tell, this is the equivalent of a cell phone without the display. They quoted me $1,760 all-in. In the end, the invoice was $995.66 because they received a remanufactured unit from MB. Just to get rid of the annoying message. ?
