Radio turning on and off again

Hello,

i was just driving my car from work to home when all of the sudden the radio froze and i also heard some sort of clanking noise like a skipping cd or skipping hard drive. I do not have any cd in my unit.

I turned it on and off but now it will only attempt to boot, display the mercedes benz logo than switch off again.

I have no errors, the dash display is frozen on track 2 like it was when it froze and i have no idea what to do.

I do not have my tools with me but tomorrow i will do a diagnostic on it.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem?

I tried searching the forum but i can not find something similar.

Thanks

That sounds like a broken MOST-ring or a bricked unit. But given the fact that you heard some noise coming out of the unit I would put my money on that. Try Jeff's advice and if that doesn't work I guess you will have to open it. Do you have other devices in the car i.e a CD-changer or UHI interface? You could check the MOST connection at these devices to make sure they are not the culprit.

Hello,

i do not have a cd changer but i do have an USB and an ipod connector.
I was listening music from the USB when it stopped so i removed the usb drive with no luck.

The ipod connection(which you can see beneath the ashtray) i have never used since i have a newer model iphone wich is not compatible with that type of connector.

Well if it's bricked i will be forced to get an OEM upgrade. If i can find something with waze i will be one happy camper.
From what i understand here in romania i can find one for about 900 euros with waze, i'll have to check.

Thank you

I had a similar problem with my comand unit but in my case it was overheating ( 30 degrees outside ) and i was blasting the music at max. After 2h my unit started again.
Try the engineering mode to see if is responding.
If not i will remove the unit and check the fuse.

Hello,
it is definitely not overheating since I had no problems during the summer and now it's almost winter so it's almost freezing.
I would also say that is not the fuse since it does boot for a couple of seconds so something works.

As update this morning on my way to work in the dash display at audio it showed for lines ---- .

I do not know the engineering mode.

Thank you

Ok, so i went to work, and i ran diagnostics but nothing about audio appeared.
I got on error about right seatbelt, right heated mirror, and something about AC.

Then i got the tools from my other car and put them in the trunk, then the trunk did not close, it did not latch.
I tried to close it for 30 minutes with no success.

I drove like this till home, tried closing it 1000 times then said screw it and left the boot open like that. Not open like an open door, just not locked.

I went inside to eat and cam back after one hour. Now the boot is closed, i have no idea why, but it would not open, and i have my tools inside so i can not reset the battery.

I will borrow some more tools tomorrow and if that does not work i will go to a Mercedes dealers.

I feel like an idiot.

Thank you

So you did or did not do the battery reset?

you can try a battery reset

disconnect the neg cable for a minimum of 30 mins
reconnect cable
reset clock and resynch windows
try radio/cd

Hello,

not yet because the next day i had to leave on urgent business to Paris.
I just now finished work and did not have any time to check anything.
Will return home tomorrow.

Will do a hard reset this weekend, if that does not work, on Wednesday i will go to MB dealership

What is the state of the car vehicle's battery? How many years of service? Do you normally slow trickle charge it to full capacity on a weekly basis?

Hello,

ok so i got home and the first thing was to do a hard reset. The radio turned on.
Thank you so much.

The battery is brand new, i changed it 3 months ago with a premium one and i use the slk every other day so charging should not pose a problem..
I do not know what slow trickle charge means though.

Now i only have the boot that will not open after it would not latch.

Thank you all for your help and i will search for boot problem but i find nothing i will make a new post.

Meanwhile i got a climatronic unit i was supposed to install but i think i will wait until i solve all other issues before attacking this one.

Cheers to all

OK false alarm audio still not working.

So, i did the hard reset and the unit started i left it for a couple of seconds so i turned the engine off and went home.

Then i though i would go out so i actually wanted to listen to music but no music was playing. In fact the unit is non responsive, you can switch from AM to FM but that is it.

Attached some pictures of what it does.

I have no idea what to do next

Since it was a loong time until i could go to do a DAS check i decided to keep at it.

So i started more online searches and i have discovered that unlike conventional cars that i had until now that had the amplifier in the audio unit, the SLK audio unit is separate from the amplifier so your audio unit could work but for nothing.
Or something like that, i am a mechanical engineer not an electrical one.

Long story short i changed the fuse no. 26 from the dashboard and now everything is working like a charm :)

hurrah for google

Also about the trunk i read a lot, heard that could be the wires on the left, checked all the wires but they are in it's original sleeve and look perfect, than i checked the latch after removing the plastic cover inside the boot moved the connector a bit and now also the boot works .

So i had two for two today, although i am not happy that it could all go bad again, i will return to it next weeks

Not bad.

Tomorrow i am leaving again for France but when i get back i will attack the climatronic retrofit
