phone buttons on steering wheel

Hi Guys,
Got my brand new 2012 250 CDI AMG Sport delivered today. Tenorite grey with Bengal red leather - it's beautiful.
Only thing bugging me is the phone buttons on the RHS of the steering wheel seem inoperative. Phone is paired via BT, phone works when using the Command dial and the dash screen - but pressing the buttons on the wheel appear to do nothing. I'd expect them to hang up the call, or bring up a recent dialled list etc.

Am I missing something? Any trick to this I should be aware of?

I've tried it with an HTC Mozart (Windows Phone 7) and an Android HTC One X. Same with both. I don't believe that the phone type should make a difference though as it's just implementing Bluetooth headset profile.
I've not found any situation where the steering wheel phone buttons do anything - I can place and receive calls using COMMAND or the buttons under the stereo, but not with the steering wheel ones.

Can someone try something for me? Make a call, and then press the steering wheel buttons. Does it hang up?

Also, if you're driving without making a call and press the steering wheel buttons, what happens? Does it pop up a last-dialled list or similar?

This is kind of what I'd expect to happen anyway. before I go back to a dealer I'd just like some confirmation!

Cheers guys. Loving the car so far. Still taking it easy until it's run in but gratified that it's entirely possible to get it sideways...!
