I'm new to the SLK world - but one common problem that seems to come up often - are complaints about the lack of comfort in the stock seats. It seems to be common to all models 170, 171, 172..

Looking at the after-market I see that their are dozens of Manufacturers offering their products, and many at very reasonable prices {$200.00 to $500.00}. The problem is - they are all on-line, with no specific feedback from SLK owners. Nor any that have actually been installed in an SLK etc.

For that reason, I would think that some Vendor that specializes in supplying SLK Accessories, would have found a good after-market replacement. One that provides proper support, in effect a good GT Seat, not a "racing seat". One that will fit in the car with no major changes needed etc.

Does anyone know of such a Vendor or SLK Speciality Shop that has done the leg work, research and actual installations - - that they can recommend?

thanks,
Carl B.

I think the stock SLK 55 (R171) seat is very comfortable!

and

I echo the same.

Hello Fellow SLK owners:
Thanks for the input and your opinions are appreciated.

However, would you mind giving me your age, and if possible could you provide some pictures of the seats in your AMG's. I'd like to see how they differ from stock SLK seats.

It could be that most of the complaints are coming from owners closer to my age. At 68 I have back and hip structures that require better support from any car seat - than I did at say 50 or younger.

FWIW,
Carl B.

Im 40 and the seat is killing me... I somehow believed that the power seats have more adjustment and are more comfortable. My car seat is almost brand new, but only manual adjustment, no titling :(

I don't mind the R171 seats at all, but I guess it really depends on how the seats align with your body, because I certainly acknowledge there have been plenty of complaints over the years about them.

Since you have an R170, there is one guy on this forum who replaced his 170 seats with a pair that he salvaged from a Chevrolet Corvette. There is a thread on it right here:

http://www.slkworld.com/general-mod...l-modifications-r170/21284-i-injected-little-corvette-into-my-slk230-seats.html

He has since sold that car, but perhaps it gives you some ideas.

Have to say I love the AMG seats in the 55 - they're plenty comfortable, even for long runs... (they are the electric variety - not sure if they are more comfortable than the manual ones..)

Had a, shall we say, 'spirited' drive back from the folks tonight and no fatigue at all...

Cheers

I used to hate my seat in the 171, but saying that, the AMG 171 seats were better than the standard 171 seats. In the standard, I used to have to take my wallet out of my rear pocket, or on a long drive, I would end up getting a dead leg.. lol

Now I'm in the AMG 172 seats, they are great..., although not sure of the standard 172 seats..

so in order of pain

Standard 171 'Pain in the ar**'
AMG 171 'more comfortable'
Standard 172 ' unsure'
AMG 172 ' great'

so they are getting better

Swagman - That says more about your wallet than the seats....LOL !

I've driven my '05 SLK350 with electric seats , 280km got out for 11mins and got back in and driven 280km back in perfect comfort.
After reading some threads about the SLK seats i was initially worried but i now find them perfectly acceptable - not luxurious - but great sports seats.
I am a 51 year old and 6' tall. My wife is 5'4" nearly as old as me , she has a bad back and still says they are comfortable. She was with me on the 560km drive and actually dozed off in the passenger seat.

I think it may depend upon individuals or maybe Electric seats are much better ??

We have to remember it is a sports car. I am 63 and I don't think they are too bad. Have ever sat in a older Porsche Targa. If you want a comfortable seat then sit a Town Car or the sets in my Porsche Cayenne SUV are pretty nice. LOL.:tu:

P.S. Aren't our cockpits a bit small for a Corvette Seat. But then again I have an old SKL 170 model. My wife says she wants to set on a pillow but then she does not have much meat on her booty.:butt:

Where the heck are you going to find a junkyard with these? The closest I could find was Co-part, which only sells whole cars -- and there were scant few of 'em.

When the leather on my 230k went south I replaced the seats with a pair of the cloth upholstered version. The seats were vastly superior to he leather ones!

I had some severe back problems during a 1000 mile trip. At around 100 mile intervals I had to get out and take a short walk to relieve the pain. Later a doc suggested setting the Lumbar adjustment almost completely retracted and not pushing on my spine harldly at all. That suggestion has made the seat acceptable for me.
