How to refill Hydraulic Pump Hard Top

Hello,

Just got a 2000 SLK 230 and I need to fill up the Hydraulic pump for the hardtop. I've read that I need to remove the pump in order to fill her up but this seems a little complicated. Is there any plug in the pump that is used to fill her up? I see several TORX screws and I don't know if any of them is to be used to refill the pump. Thanks

Hi
Should be a screw on top of the pump - upper right side.
It should fit a hex/allen/unbrako(dunno what you call it) key size 5.
Oil level should be between min and max.
After filling, tighten screw with 8NM torque

EDIT: If you look down through the "brush", you'll see the screw.

Just curious, I would think that this should be a "closed system" where the fluid level ought to remain constant. Under what conditions would you need to add fluid to the pump? Was there a leak or bad seal or something that was replaced first?

Thanks. That is the correct screw. Hard time to refill it. Found that I have one of the hard top cylinders leaking big time. Have a one month warranty so they will fix it for me on Monday.

Some other info: Under normal circumstances you shouldn't need to refill the hydraulic fluid in the pump unless you have a leak. Due that I just bought the car and the pump looked so new, I thought that maybe it had been exchanged and it needed more fluid due that the system had pulled it all in (Bleed).

I have 2002 slk320 and I did it this way. I removed the cd player open the access panel drilled my own hole in reservoir, attached a piece of vacuum hose to a oil funnel and topped mine of with fluid. It took me about half an hour including making the funnel and tube. After I was done, I cleaned my reservoir surface and attached a piece of duct tape.
