Hi Eddy...how did you modify your short antenna??? I tried a few ways but none were overly successful I find the range with the original whip really good but was so disappointed even with modifing the R129 antenna??

 

Range is very good for remote key use with the modified R170 antenna. With the SL the most range one can get from remote key function is about 90 feet only.

 

My short antenna that I purchased from the SLK store will only get the RF signal around 30ft. I thought this was modified like the factory specfs? The OEM whip attenna work much further distance but I hate the look of it.

 

Did you get the R170 (5-inch) antenna? If you did, then I can modify it and test it before sending it back. We can do this via mail.

No, but knowing you it is the farthest car away all by itself to avoid door dents!!!! I agree I would love the mod, read some of the posts about installing though, has me a little nervous. Wonder what Mercedes would charge?

 

Just make sure if you point it at your chin, it doesn't open your head instead of the roof of your car... lol

 

Dave, I remember your chin post from previously. I could try it and go further back but then i prolly would not be able to see my car!!

Did you put the remote at the base of your chin while activating your top?
If not, try it and see the results.

I used to do it with my old Clifford alarm system.
Something about your body being an antenna.

That's what I thought I stated: in the rear, near the middle of the photo, there's a white vehicle to the right of the black R171.

 

I can see the small R171 next to the white sedan at the rear, the middle of the photo. Range: 310.75 feet (guess) from camera lens to R171 antenna.
