Fitting an immobilizer - how would you do it?

There have been quite a few car thefts from around here recently…. A friend had his BMW M3 stolen off his drive at night by 2 guys; it took them about 5 mins to open the car, push it down the road, and then drive off… He caught it all on CCTV, they used some sort of electronic device to get into the car.
Now I see this on the news….

It got me thinking about fitting a simple switch somewhere that would immobilize my car. I have one on my MX5 in the wire to the fuel pump relay which prevents it running after a few seconds. That was an easy fit, but I would not know where to start with my 2005 SLK55

Anyone any suggestions on how it can be done?

I use the old fashioned method with a bright yellow steering wheel lock. I know that there is better security on the market but my logic tells me that if a car thief is perusing the car parks in hope of a quick steal, he (or she) will be more likely to pick on the car without the obvious security gadgets...

Agree it might prevent .

But if your car is targetted by prof thiefs they will follow you and wait for the right opportunity and if they got the gadgets to dissarm cut out switch is nothing to them .

As i said they will just load it and dissarm it elsewhere .

Alarm / standard on most cars prevent most thiefs but prof thiefs if your targeted they will get it .

I can remotely blow a fuse. My alarm sends/receives text messages. I can follow it by receiving GPS coordinates and I can send an instruction that will effectively kill a fuse. (don't actually know which one, would have to dig into the specs).

Rental companies regulary have a special key you need to use to allow current on the ignition for a certain time. In that time the car can be started.
