"Thanks"!

A huge "thank you" for sharing the detail on resetting the oil service indicator on my auto! One of these days I'll become familiar with MB's stash of all these goodies and won't have to trouble folks like you for help. Meanwhile....your excellent assistance made my day!!

Have a great fall season!

Alan

Is this information no longer in the owners manual? It certainly used to be.

Thank you for this valuable info John. I recently changed the oil and filters in my 2006 SLK-280 as the multifunction display indicated that I was over 800 miles beyond service E. I tried to reset the diplay and now it tells me that it's over 1400 miles over service D. Tomorrow I will try what I have just learned from your information and see what happens. Recently the multifunction display shows what appears to be a pink shrimp and it seems to grow every day. I hope my display is not taking a turn for the worse. Hopefully, once I reset the service display it will solve the problem. I'll keep you posted.

Unfortunately there's been a few posts here about the appearance of 'pink shrimps' (bad pixels) in the MFD - mostly from owners living in hot climates. No easy fix except for changing the instrument console.

Very many thanks for this useful post. I spent a happy minute or six this morning 'doing the deed' and can confirm the wisdom of Mustang Sally's (Banned? Pour quoi?) urging to 'rap tap tap' on the Reset button in order to get a response.
I also noted that, on my old girl at least, there is no 'Special Operations' menu item. But a much more prosaic 'Items' statement seems to do the same trick.
There are a few nerve-racking areas in the menu, rather like a 'Here Be Tygers' hemisphere on an ancient map. For instance, what, presuming it's an arcane reference to the battery, does 'UB 12.2v' mean?
In fact I replaced the battery just last week and all seems to be well since I remembered to teach the side windows how high they could jump. to keep the rain out!
Anyway; thanks once again.

tough to say. if your car has had a firmware update. mb now uses service A and service B, instead of service numbers. let's see what others say or you could try it again.

Did my first DIY oil change on this car this past weekend. The previous oil change the car was still under CPO warranty so I wanted them to take the opportunity to see what needed to be fixed - glad I did as they noted and fixed a few items I would have missed.

But in general, I prefer to do my own oil changes when the car is out of warranty. They definitely made this one more challenging to reset, but I eventually got it thanks to your postings. Thanks!
