Hi to all gentlemen who care to shared their knowledge/experience,

I have the 06 SLK350 R171, and just purchased an android unit, all because I needed to use the Bluetooth and phone function on wheel and not wanting to spend on the adaptor. After reading through the tons of information in this forum, came to my knowledge that the Command system is setup as ring layout with MOST, and required fibre optic connected. I have removed the CD changer in the glove box, and the NAV in the boot, so do I really need the fiber optic? What would I loose if I connect direct to the new android unit? The new android have the canbus, only missing the fibre optic.

You will be missing sound - there is an amplifier in passenger footwell, also connected via fibre. With some of these android units sellers are sending a qiute long cable to connect new unit to existing cables in footwell. Other option is to do all the wires yourself from unit to footwell - that include speakers and CAN for steering wheel control

This is an ERISIN es8740? then you may need extension cable BZ6M.

BZ6M:
Erisin BZ6M 6M Long Radio & Power Extension Wiring Harness for Mercedes Benz E/G/CL/CLS/S Class W463 W211 W219 W215 W220

If your car belong to high spec with original factory optical fibre amplifier or your factory head unit is with navi screen, you need to buy an extra extension power & Radio cable BZ6M to install, and after installed, this unit will work with your car speakers directly, factory optic fiber WON'T work again.

If you want to use the steering wheel buttons, make sure you have the CAN bus adapter! It won't work without it, the Android unit doesn't technically have CAN built in, it have a connection for the CAN bus adapter. That's the one that's doing the actual talking on the bus..

hi to all good Gentleman sharing here, much appreciated with all ur input and advise, I have successfully installed my new Witson head unit!
So far the quality of the unit is good, but not the cables that come with it.
I have gone down the path of using the 6 meter long extension cable, as it‘s plug and play direct from the exiting amplifier connectors. Fiber optic were to much fiddling for my brain.

Hey Turbo, loving the android auto, totally hands free with the voice command. Full functioning steering wheel, and so much more…now I can drive with no worry of phone calls…only concern now the new distraction of video on the go…news, txt, etc.😅
