'tis not a smart thing to do, as it can 1] potentially screw things up and 2] will cause your dealer to void your warranty on COMAND. This is covered under DTB P-B-82.85/437.

Do not recommend doing this

hi guys,

I have a 350 and changed it to the amg logo, the most stable 171 AMG setting.

I had didn't have problems at first. But what I did notice is that a few weeks later I started have electrical problems with the car. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my door would not open unless I opened it electronically.

What they discovered (covered under warranty) was that the wires between the door and the front of the car somewhere (i have no idea) was faulty.

Im not sure if changing the command system logo may change the electrical power draw between its systems but for me, I'm not taking that chance anymore.

Listen to everyone, don't put the AMG logo on, its pointless. Come to think of it, if they wanted to do it, i'm sure AMG would of done it from the factory to make the car seem more unique. Obviously they didn't do it because they didn't finish proper development on it.

Hope this helps anyone.

thanks guys thank you so much i guess i will listen to your and keep it how it is !!!
i don' t want to take that chance to void my warranty , i guess they must charge you alot for fix it !!??

I went into the settings but have yet to mess with logo/keyboard for fear of damage.

I get what the logo startup thing does but what does the keybrd setting do?

i see -developer, ece and usa with w### and last variant model.

Mine has variant model highlighted. what should it be on?

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead.

I just tried this on my 2005 SLK55 and it works. :biglaugh: I'm not sure if it works the same for non-USA countries.

1. Turn ignition to position 2 (NOT engine on).
2. Turn on your COMAND unit and select "CDC." ("CD" did not work for me)
3. While holding the "5" button down, also hold "3" and "7" down until the next screen changes.
4. At the next screen, scroll down and select "AMG171_USA."
5. Press the "Back" button to exit.
6. Turn the car off to get COMAND reset itself.
7. Turn on COMAND to see AMG logo screen.

I'll let you guys know if I encounter any problems with this option.

I saw this on another forum, and figured I'd check out the discussion here ... strange to see jbanks edited the first post relatively recently when there hasn't been a post in a while.

I'd like to have the AMG screen, but not sure if it's worth the potential hassles. I hit AM by accident occasionally and the above posts say that could cause it to crash. Is there a fix to this crash when AM is selected?

I've been a silent participant in your forum for a few months now, just sucking up all the useful dialogue, but I wonder if anyone out there can help.

I'm sure I've read somewhere in the forum that it is possible to get the AMG logo on the command at startup rather than the normal MB logo.

Any chance of advising how I might do this on my UK spec 07my 55?
I followed the instruction in this thread and changed my COMAND logo to the AMG. All seemed fine at first, but then I tried to change out a CD from the disk changer and I couldn't get any discs to eject. I didn't make the connection at first, because my cds all seemed to be playing fine. Then I noticed that the radio display on dash wasn't showing the frequency any more. After a couple of other oddball quirks, I changed the logo back, and WHAM! everything worked as normal.

I know, I'm bringing back a thread from the dead.
While playing around in my 2005 SLK350 COMAND (w/Nav) I went to the 5-3-7 screen and was looking around, and figured I try to see the AMG screen for kicks, and chose the AMG 171 for US and powered off, waited a while, powered on and saw it appear. Then I switched it back, and went looking around in other settings.
Then today going to work, I noticed I could not do the Mute-End-SRV menu, or the Map button would not bring up the map, but Nav would initiate a route.
Ends up the SRV and Map buttons didn't do anything. I went back to 5-3-7 and then Keyboard screen, it was set to developer, I chose the bottom one, powered off, and all is well. So I figured someone else might be playing and muck it up, easy to fix.

Yes, we have a couple of threads on to be careful in there.

I found tons of posts in dozens of threads about it, and several mentions of people losing functionality after, but nothing definitive on how to "possibly" restore it. If anyone can think of a better place to put it, let me know. I can also add pictures if needed.
I'm surprised it doesn't work like the RB1 Nav radio in the Chryslers of the same time period. They would detect the VIN and choose the logo for Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge based on what vehicle it was installed in.

Phew! Close call.

Really fancied doing this but seeing the potential gremlins (I don't use AM but that doesn't stop the chances of hitting it)
I've decided against.

Now to find another upgrade minefield to explore.

Strange that MB like to shout AMG on the tail but don't like to safely exploit AMG at every other opportunity.
