Where to find approved UK New Replacement Halogen Headlamps for 171

Hi Guys,

Looking for UK RHDrive new Halogen replacement headlamps.

Time has come to replace the original Halogen headlamp units on my R171 200k 2005. Having Googled several times it seems as though there are plenty of aftermarket suppliers for LHD or (Right side traffic) cars, but virtually none for RHD or (Left side traffic) cars. The original Merc supplied ones are mega expensive compared with aftermarket ones

Obviously it is important that they are "E" marked and approved for MOT test purposes.

Appreciate any details of suitable suppliers as I can only find one, which is listed on Ebay uk.

Many thanks

Hi Avel Du,

I have already tried a professional kit with little improvement because most of the deterioration seems to be on the inside. Although the lens glass has clips I don't think you can open it up as it appears to be bonded.

Thanks for your help

Hi Dennis,
I don’t doubt what you say about your lights but I’d be very surprised if the deterioration was on the inside on both because, as you say, the units are well sealed.
I’ve just done my own lights which were going yellow and had crazing over the top area, with 800 (if they’re really bad), 1000, 2000 and finish with 3000 wet n dry.

You then would need to polish with a cutting compound (with a pad on a drill or a DA polisher). It took me about 30min a side and they now look like new:smile:

If they’re that bad and you’re looking at buying replacements, you have nothing to lose trying another small area with the normal wet n dry and a polish.
If I was nearer, I’d be happy help with my DA.

@Dave2303 Can the lens be removed?

If you are prepared to look away from oem, check out Spyder.
You do have to make sure RHD as many are not, as you say.

The is a 171 diy on fitting Spyders.

Thanks Avel Du,

I would prefer not to go with originals mainly because of the high cost and they will get little use for night driving. I am a retired Automotive Engineer, so fitting is no problem  Do you have a link for the Spyders please,

Regards
