time to prepare: Clear Side Marker Tech Sesson March 6!

The Clear Side Marker Tech Session has evolved into an opportunity you won't want to miss!

Spark77and xopher have put together a day of SLK beautification and maintenance unlike any other we've experienced!
Come prepared to work, assist or help in the kitchen.
They can't, single handedly, do everything to all cars, so while they're working on the side marker light
replacements we can do a couple of other things to our own SLK, hands on.
Ladies, we'll prepare beverages, snacks and lunch in Mark's kitchen.

Here's what's in store for those lucky enough to make this session:

·replace the amber side marker lenses
  • preordered and purchased by you
  • replace the clear light bulb with an amber bulb
  • included in your kit
  • lens kits will be available for you at the session

·modification and installation of the short Mercedes-Benz OEM stubby antenna
  • preordered and purchased by you
  • will be modified by Chris/Mark and available to pick up and install at the session
  • Note: the short antenna reduces reception distance. beauty has its limitations
  • do we really need to lower our roof from a block away...?

·key fob battery replacement
  • learn how to do it
  • do it
  • batteries will be available to purchase
  • you may want to keep a spare handy

·front brake inspection
  • including a rotor thickness check since the front wheels need to come off to replace the lenses

·clean inside the wheel and add a protective coat of wax
  • since the wheels have to come off this is a good opportunity
  • help with or shown how to clean the inside of your wheels
  • supplies provided

All work will be done by these guys, gratis, with any participation level comfortable to you.
We'll meet for a drive north to Mark's brand new home with 4 car garage in Marysville.
You may also join up with us there.
Beverages, snacks and lunch will be provided at his place.

No charge for this session, all work compliments of Chris and Mark.
SLK NW will pick up shipping of the lens kits and stubby antennas so everything can be sent in bulk.

Send a PM for special purchasing pricing.

Perhaps it may help Chris and Mark: the wheels do not have to come off for the sidemarker replacement.

Although it's not a bad idea if one wants the front brake discs inspected and measured. Might as well clean the inside part of the rims and inspect the tire for unusual tread wear pattern. This link has the pdf to the brake rotor/disc thickness data.

Also, I am not quite sure if it's legal in the state of Washington to have the LED on the sidemarker (instead of the chromed amber lamp). SLKstore now has the error-free LEDs.

The range to use the remote key is not generally reduced (compared to the OEM whip, and in some cases better than OEM whip ant.) with the modified R170 "shorty" antenna. There may be some reduction when aiming from the off-side (aiming from the passenger side of the vehicle) as the line-of-sight is a bit difficult, with the antenna being 5 inches short.

Radio reception is affected.

Chris and Mark can coil the 37cm gauge 20 insulated solid wire ahead of time, if they know how many antennae needs to be modified.

Thanks for the info. We plan to make this our first trip (of many) up north for this year. Anyone else that may be heading up north, let me know and maybe we can meet and head up together.

Hope it goes well Pam. It sounds like a great opportunity for fun and mods. Also, as Eddy tried to point out, the LED error free lights are available, and advertised as parking lamp replacements. However, these are the same size and style bulbs you need for sidemarker lenses. The current clear side marker kit from the SLK store does not include an error-free LED bulb. Maybe we should ask Ken to offer an option for the clear side marker kit to include the LED lights if desired instead of the standard bulb

Wow, an opportunity to kill 3 birds with 1 stone! I've been wanting to swap the antenna and side markers for a while, as well as attending one of these PacNW SLK get-togethers. Looks like I finally have a chance to do all 3!

15 of the 17 SLK's that showed up for the mod session at Mark's.

Thanks to all involved. Had a great time as always.
