Cars & Coffee April 2nd Knoxville, TN

FYI - Miss Scarlett and I plan to travel to East Tennessee to participate in this charity poker run thru the hills of East, TN. I always like to say, the best roads in Kentucky are really in Tennessee. Deals Gap is only about 30 min south of there. I don't know the route for the run but it should be good. We plan to travel down to Gatlinburg, TN Friday night to stay at the 8 Gables Inn BnB for some RnR. Will be participating in the poker run on Saturday morning and a wine slurping contest on the porch at the Inn Saturday night after the car has been put away for the night (BYOB).
More details below.

Cars n Coffee Knoxville, TN - April 2nd

This event is sponsored by the European Auto Garage and will end at that location. Besides Mercedes Benz, they deal in a variety of European Marques including: Ferrari, Maserati, Audi, VW, Porsche, Mini, Aston Martin, Volvo. I don't know much about them other than have driven past a few times.

I used to attend the Cars n Coffee events in LA when I lived out in SoCal and they were epic. As you got closer to the venue on the Freeways it would be early, barely daylight and the only cars on the roads were classic, custom and exotic cars of all shapes and sizes. Impromptu races often erupted out of shear exuberance. The lot would be full of unobtainium. I saw my first Isso Griffo there. I once parked beside of a ratty looking old Cobra 429. No paint only bare aluminum body. I asked the owner about it. It was a 1966. How much? Oh, he paid $1 million for it, all original, unrestored. Wow! Daytona Ferraris were there, classic Porsches. McLarens, you name it. And the cars not on the lot were nearly as classy. M6's, AMG's, Bentley's, very cool. BMW M1 V12 was there too. Not sure what to expect in Tennessee. I have never been to this event but figured it was a good excuse to drive to Gatlinburg which we like to do in the spring anyways.

Cars n Coffee

I made my reservations last week and picked up event tickets from their website (super easy). Now with a little spring in the air today, I am getting antzy for a road trip. April 2nd is only 3-1/2 weeks away.

It being close to Easter, I placed an Easter-egg in the SLK glovebox. What with the CD changer filling up all the space, that is about all that will fit, . Look for the big tall ugly guy with the Col Sanders style whiskers and the Red SLK.

Tail of the Dragon

No trip to that area is complete without driving the Tail of the Dragon, US129 south of Maryville.
We moved to that area in 1990 and bought a 90 Miata, British Racing Green with a tan leather interior, that car was made for that road.
Watch out for bikes on the turns, 318 turns in 11 miles.

April 2 Knoxville

Yes, Deals Gap is a top 10 road for sure. Not sure if the event organizers plan to route us there but we are staying in Gatlinburg that entire weekend and hope to do a buzz thru the Gap and on across Cherohala Skyway as well.

Very true about the Miata. I am an SCCA member and I see Miata drivers who can embarrass many much more powerful and supposedly capable cars all the time. The Miata punches above its weight on super tight and technical courses such as the Gap. Plus I thing the BR Green ones are faster than all the others, .

East Tennessee Is calling our names

Smoky Mtns, twisty roads, good food and fine automobiles. E. Tennessee is calling our names. We head out Friday evening to attend the event at Knoxville and to plunder Gatlinburg.

Tennessee CnC

Miss Scarlett and I took the SLK to East Tennessee this weekend. We arrived at the Cars n Coffee event about 5 min before the rally portion got underway. I saw a few other SLK's but never got to speak to anyone due to my late arrival and hitting the road immediately.

The rally was a blast. The brilliant sunshine enabled top down all day long despite the air temps being in the 50's and 60's all day. Thankful for "Airscarf"

I ran with a group all day that included:
  • 911 cab black
  • Boxster blue
  • M3 E92 cab Red
  • C7 Vette Gray
  • CLK convertible silver
  • Z/28 new Candy green
  • Z/28 80's yellow
Plus a few others at times. The route included Cherohala Skyway and Deals Gap as well as several other great roads south of Knoxville. Stops at Tellico HD and the Crossroads at the Gap. Had a grand time and am already making plans to return next year. Pic shot of us passing thru the Gap as moderate speed. Miss Scarlett gets the "Vapors" when I drive too aggressively in the corners.
