------------------ OLD POST --------------
Talking about this during our run in January made me want to do it... or a variant of it.

The idea would be to wait until JULY for this (because of the Tioga pass closure), so at this point I'm just opening this thread to see if there's people interested.
Day 1: Leave from LA early, drive north through the 14-395. Stop at Red Rock Canyon for photos.
Then continue north to Fossil falls for a short hike:
Then continue north to Lone Pine for lunch. Depending on time, take Mt. Whitney portal road to get to the base of the tallest mountain in the continental US.
Keep going north, optional stop Onion Valley:
Reach Mammoth Lakes as the sun is setting, have dinner, sleep.
Half day in Mammoth Lakes:
Then leave north. Depending on time, optional drive through June Lake Loop:
Finally, veer west into Tioga Pass:
And go into Yosemite:
Depending on lodging and time, there might be part of the day left.
After this, there could be a 3rd day at yosemite or there's a lot of more parks driving south (Sierra National Forest, Kings Canyon, Sequoia National Forest).
The drive the first day is actually kinda straight, but the area is very interesting. The drive would get better the second day. I was thinking about this from a mini-vacation point of view.
