Oahu Roadtrip?

I just got back from a weeklong trip to Oahu and during my time there I found a very fun and twisty road: Round Top and Tantalus drive just outside Waikiki. It isn't very long, maybe 30 minutes or so, but there are a lot of curves, tall trees and hanging vines. Overall, a very jungle feel (the picure is from a travel site - driving and taking pictures seemed like a bad idea).

I really wanted my SLK for the drive. I was in a Malibu stuck behind a Honda SUV taking the whole thing at 15 MPH. At least I had plenty of time to admire the scenery.

So how about it CA SLKers? Up for a group shipment and drive in Hawaii?

Any Rental Car places there with SLK's?

I remember the road well, unfortunately the last time I was there was 1981, so things will have changed slightly , we had a week on Oahu then a week on Big Island. We drove what in the UK would be known as a VW Golf with a white rag top, but I seem to remember that it was called a "Rabbit" or something similar. One of the best sights was going up to Diamond Head and watching the sail surfers doing acrobatics out at sea .

Not that I could tell. The "exotic" car rental is mostly Corvettes, Vipers and Hummers. There were a ton of Mustangs on the road too. Having lots of power doesn't make a lot of sense on the island since freeway speed limit is 55 MPH and most of the surface streets are 30 or less.

I saw two R170s that were in pretty bad shape, but I never saw an R171.

Once you go, it will be the only place you really want to go. At least that's how it is for me.

You got to go up to the North Shore and watch them surf the Pipeline and then come back down through the central valley past Wheeler. Good memories from 88-91; back then you could rent Ferrari 308s (Magnum TV show was still popular). There's a super drive on Maui - east shore down to the seven sacred pools...very jungle...if you go all the way to the end you can visit Lindberg's grave.

We actually stayed on the North Shore, although this late in the season the water is calm. We made several trips through the central valley.

Next trip is to Maui!

Did you stay at Turtle Bay? Still a great part of the island; must have gone for shaved ice!
Loved Maui - highly recommend staying right in Lahaina if you have any intention of going to the west side.

We rented a condo in Haleiwa and we did have the shave ice - very yummy. We did stop at Turtle Bay and Turtle Beach. Lots of turtles on the North Shore.

We stayed at Turtle Bay some years back. First place I ever personally saw the new style windmills.
