SoCal SLKs meet and drive (and eat) JUNE 5th 2011

Howdy!

Let's take a chance to feed our need for speed as well as our stomachs.

How about a "meat and drive"? Similar to what was done last year at Dana Point... a potluck BBQ.

I propose Castaic Lake as the venue.
https://www.slkworld.com/u-s-californ...taic-lake.html

-------------------------------------------------
DATE IS SET FOR JUNE 5TH
-------------------------------------------------

More info:

For OrCo and SD, meet at 8:30 am at
Verizon Wireless on 23718 El Toro Road, Lake Forest, CA 92630

Next meeting place is at 9:30 am at
Starbucks, 8349 Foothill Boulevard, CA

Drive up to Castaic Lake to the final meeting point:
Google Maps link

For those of you who want to skip the drive and just meet at the lake, we will be arriving at approximately 12:00. This is the address:
Grasshopper Fire Rd - Castaic, CA 91384

Attendance list:

1. etyu -- veggies for the grill, may include corn, charcoal starter (chimney style, no accelerants needed, just newspaper), medium sized cooler (will fit SLK)

Sign me up!

As for suggestions, I'm not so sure. It IS a small road (as compared to our other runs.. 2-3 hours guesstimate) but a bring-your-own-food potluck for us should do well for all.

Now when we do the sign-in list, we also have to do the "what we're bringing" list too haha.

Meat and Drive sounds good. What if one is a vegetarian? Can one still come?

I should be able to make it and hope the mate does too. Let us just say that we drive within limits.

I'll bring a bag of carrots just for you, Eddy.

Everyone attending may want to consider bringing a bathing suit, if you so feel like risking your car's insides, but the waters might be nice.

Unfortunately there's no swimming allowed at Castaic Lake :-(
Does anyone know other lake/s that do?

We can plan for a vegetarian option, after all it's a potluck and I'm sure there'll be enough food to go around...

I was just kidding on the vegetarian issue. Instead of carrots bring corn (yellow or white) to use on the grill. Also consider, eggplant, zucchini, different variety of peppers, and asparagus.

Since I started the issue on the veggies, mate states we will bring the veggies for the grill. Let's start a list going:

1. etyu -- veggies for the grill, may include corn.
2. noober --
3. bleen --

BTW, where is a good place to meet? and what time of day? 10 am? Figure driving time to reach the park in order to reserve a BBQ spot by 11am perhaps. Or does someone want to be there sooner to stake out a place? It's nearly summer and I think all other families are thinking the same thing.

Side note: I can bring a table top charcoal grill if needed. We'll need aluminum foil, charcoal and charcoal starters. I'm hoping Edward (cyberdrakon) et al can make it as he likes to play with fire and accelerants

(Edit: how did the thumbs down sign get up there? May I ask administrators/moderators to remove this please?) Done.

Eddy

2. noober -- chips, dip, sodas, other assorted, utensils (including napkins.)
3. bleen --

NOTE: I will NOT be able to bring a cooler so I would ask if someone can bring one.

Now now let's NOT start fire season early!

1. etyu -- veggies for the grill, may include corn.
2. noober -- chips, dip, sodas, other assorted, utensils.
3. bleen -- burgers, buns, SMALL cooler (somebody should also bring a bigger one, mine's a joke)

We are missing napkins (unless noober brings them?), aluminum foil, cups, coal, fire starter fluid thingy, and more food if we get more people (dessert/fruit, raw veggies like carrots, etc).

Charcoal grill would not be needed on Castaic Lake, they have grills.

Meeting time depends if you guys want to do the drive on the mountains before or after lunch...

I like the fact that this is the weekend before Memorial weekend, as I know that weekend will be super busy and I probably have 10 BBQs/Parties to attend between mine and Annisas friends :/

I have a fairly large cooler that I can bring with ice. Im not 100% sure if it fits in the SLK ill check sometime this week, fits perfectly in Annisa's trunk, if the drive was short such as going down to Newport or Laguna or something 'local', we wouldn't mind taking two cars, but if its a longer drive then that wouldn't work.

If I bring the cooler I can bring: Ice, drinks, condoments, maybe additional meat or veggies? If no cooler then I guess I could bring Chips, plates, tinfoil, bbq tools (tons/scraper/flipper)...?

For now Ill hope the cooler fits:

1. etyu -- veggies for the grill, may include corn.
2. noober -- chips, dip, sodas, other assorted, utensils.
3. bleen -- burgers, buns, SMALL cooler (somebody should also bring a bigger one, mine's a joke)
4. slkluv -- Large cooler - ice, drinks (water and soda, juice?), condiments, plastic cups? BBQ tools: Scraper, tongs, flipper + Tin foil.

no swimming is the LOWER castaic lake. You can swim in the upper lake (and boat of which I'd supply if we wanted to do that.. however I'll be in Pennsylvania on that weekend). Unfortunately, with the wet winter we've had, most of the beaches on the upper lake are underwater!

Revised list:

1. etyu -- veggies for the grill, may include corn, Charcoal starter (chimney style, no accelerants needed, just newspaper), medium sized cooler (will fit SLK)
2. noober -- chips, dip, sodas, other assorted, utensils.
3. bleen -- burgers, buns, SMALL cooler (somebody should also bring a bigger one, mine's a joke)
4. slkluv -- Large cooler - ice, drinks (water and soda, juice?), condiments, plastic cups? BBQ tools: Scraper, tongs, flipper + Tin foil.

Matt, you can skip the cooler, we can meet briefly, load the cooler with ice and drinks, then caravan north.

Pablo, where do we meet and what time? Are we doing this on a Saturday?

I'm fine with either Saturday or Sunday, if anyone has any constrains or preferences just voice them.

This is the drive I did last time, I could certainly repeat it:

http://goo.gl/KpSCF

2:21 from that Starbucks to the lake, not including stops. If we do it lunch We'd have to meet at, what, 10:00? If that's too early we could just meet at the picnic site at 12:00 and drive afterward. The view wouldn't be as nice though.

Since Todd is out of town I wonder if it'd be better to move it to another weekend though, that boat is tempting.

Heh, that looks like a lovely drive. I'm currently sitting in Culver City, I can see those mountains in the distance. Only here for a couple of nights, so don't have time to meet up.

In the meantime, I ordered a chicken sandwich and have just been given what appears to be a meal back home! Slightly worried about teh size of your chickens judging by the size of the fillet breast on this bread.

Anyhow, here's the view

Can we choose a definite date and time to get this rolling? I just need to tell my job what weekend I WON'T be sitting through another "power" meeting... :-P

June 4 or 5 is open for me. I can hold 8 people (legally) total. If we get more, we'll have to hit a beach and make a second trip for peeps.
I have a wake board and tube for playing on the water.

Sounds good to me! :-) Driving + eating + boating = awesome

How does Sunday the 5th look for the rest of you guys? I realized I have a concert on the 4th so it's more convenient on the 5th for me...

I won't complain about the 5th. Probably frees up a few more people so we won't be slammed with Memorial Day weekend.

June 5th, Sunday, is fine with me too. What time and where should we meet before going to the BBQ site?
