How in the world do you guys organize? Some sort of secret mind connection you got going on? I see one thread, three posts, and 24 people show up. Us SoCal folk have 86 million posts per thread and 8 people show up.
Hope this isn't TMI
Here is a little information about our group and how we organize. It is mostly by email distributions as described below. We do some board postings to attract new people and many are also referrals.
First of all, we are not a formal group, just some SLK enthusiasts that like our cars and like to get together with others who share that love of SLKs. Everyone takes responsibility for themselves. We do limit participation to only SLKs.
The group is loosely held together by three coordinators, only two of which have the email addresses of our participants. One is myself and the other Tom, who collects information on our participants. Announcements are sent out to distributions as "BCC" so privacy is protected and emails will not be publicized. The third coordinator, Chuck does a lot of organization around the meets and logistics there.
Tom is one of the original participants, going back to January of 2004 with the group. I first met the group in November of 2004 when my car was on the way from a Eurodelivery and first actually participated in January 2005 when it was here. I generally coordinate the monthly meet/drives, which are led by different individuals who volunteer to take us to areas they plan.
Events are usually the third Saturday of the month and in the past have been monthly, January through November. At times, we have gone to a every other month schedule due to less people stepping forward to lead events, but then months in between have gotten filled for the most part. Our most common events start with an hour of meeting (10:30 AM) in a parking lot, somewhere near coffee and bathrooms. We then take off on a drive somewhere at 11:30, sometimes with attractions or stops and often concluding with some optional lunch somewhere. Some events depart from this typical agenda and may even be longer or overnighters.
We look forward to meeting some Southern California folks in March
