Sequoia/King's Canyon September 27 – 28, 2014

UPDATE: CANCELLED AS OF 9/8/14

Hey all,
Lauren and I are planning an SLK trip to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park this fall and we would like to invite along any SoCal SLKs along for the trip. Trip dates are September 27 – 28, 2014.
Rough itinerary:
Saturday September 27th
8:00 am Depart OC Waypoint REI 2962 El Camino Real Tustin, CA 92782. Additional waypoints can be added as needed for SD and LA.
1:30 pm Depart after having lunch and getting gas in Visalia, CA.
2:30 pm Enter the park.
3:30 pm Take a cave tour at Boyden Cavern.
5:00 pm Arrive at overnight motel, Cedar Grove Lodge. Have some food and take it easy for the night. Lots of scenery and wilderness around the lodge to explore, hence the free evening hours.
Sunday September 28th
8:00 am Depart the lodge.
10:00 am See the General Sherman Tree
11:00 am Crescent Meadow Road, Drive under/through an fallen redwood.
12:00 pm Lunch at Sierra Subs in Three Rivers, CA.
Head home, about 4.5 hours to OC.

Most of the appeal in the trip is driving through the trees, so the drive through the park will be relaxed. There is also a significant amount of large wildlife to watch out for. The scenery should be excellent, and the lodge is very scenic, isolated and quiet. Roads are winding throughout the park.

If you are interested in going, you can book hotel reservations at the Cedar Grove Lodge here: http://www.visitsequoia.com/cedar-grove-lodge.aspx. There aren’t a lot of other options nearby, so I recommend booking early and cancelling if need be.

*drool!!*

Would love to go, but parents are in town during that timeframe. I'm a likely "no" at this point, boo! I can send out the usual PM blast on your behalf though.

Thanks. In all seriousness, you can always bring them along in an extra car. Bonus points if it's a second SLK.

Hey all,
We elected to cancel this trip. The hotels are full and the month of September has become crazy for us scheduling and workload wise.

Hope to plan a similar trip in the future.
