Cool December 5th 9:00 am - SoCal meet & drive

Hi everyone!

So I'm new in the forum and I was looking forward to going to a meet and drive, but there's just one in Northern Cali! :-(
I mean, good for those guys, but I live in Pasadena and I won't drive all the way there, sorry.

So I was thinking if anyone was up or knew about a SoCal SLK / Mercedes / sportscars meet and drive? (any of the three would do).

What date, time and where do we meet? Where do you wish to drive to: Santa Barbara? (just throwing a random destination out)

Saturdays are good for me. Usually we meet in the am (8 to 9 ish), drive, lunch, another drive and then head for home around 3ish in the afternoon. V8SLK and Cyberdrakon are either in Pasadena or very near.

Tslick is our main navigator/pathfinder; moreover, I'd also like to meet with Cyberdrakon and test out his burnt mp3 on DVD on my COMAND unit. Others are SLKluv, LynxFx, Sid, netmiami, V8SLK, V6SLK, tommy04, etc.

Tslick will be going to Laguna Seca to drive the SLS, but I forgot the date.

December 5, 2009 sounds good to me!

Some suggestions:

- For close to home: Santa Monica mountains. Only drove there once and liked it. It's mountains + beach all in one, but traffic on the PCH can be heavy in the area, and it might run a little short.

- Around Los Padres National Forest, near Santa barbara. I've read that the 33 up there is supposed to be beautiful. We'd also have the coast close and could stop by Santa Barbara for lunch.

I'd also suggest the Angel's Crest but AFAIK it's still closed due to the fire :-(

I haven't driven that much here in SoCal yet so I'm more than open to suggestions :-)

As for meeting time, 9:00 would be ok, specially if it's further away. Earlier might be too much for a weekend (I like sleeping in a little, hehehe).

December 5th, Saturday; 9am is fine. Where do we meet? Where do we drive to? LynxFx knows of a run in Santa Monica IIRC. Any word from Tslick?

Did I hear BBQ?!!? The BBQ was awesome Edward, would love to do it again anytime =)

Maybe this is the Canadian in me but do we have to worry about 'mountain runs' in December (ie snow/badweather)? I would assume not though I went up to Big Bear a bunch last year and that road can get pretty nasty in December.

Im down for mostly anything, beach + bbq + mountain run sounds pretty awesome though =)

What do you think about Los Padres. I've never been. Where's a good assembly point at 9am? Pasadena?

Bleen, do you know of a good route?

LOL...more Spam Sliders?

as long as we aren't going all the way up big bear, roads will be fine, especially first week of December. Angeles Crest (only the lower part is open) should be fine. Otherwise, i really liked the Rock Store Run down in Miami. Maybe something down that way again?

Talking

I'm good for either route. Santa Monica might run short, the 33 might run a little long. It's a Saturday anyways so I don't mind.
Both should be a ton of fun.

For the sake of casting a vote, I'd do the 33 as I've never been up there before.

We should meet in a fairly spacious parking lot with a Starbucks or similar so we can grab a coffee before hitting the road.
There's a good big parking lot between Sierra Madre and Pasadena with a Peet's Coffee. Here's the link:
http://tinyurl.com/y86bub9
Otherwise feel free to suggest :-)

As for a BBQ... dunno where we could make one? Again, suggestions welcome.

Sounds like a plan. I could meet up with people at Peets Coffee and Tea in Pasadena (~9am) and caravan to Chevron in Woodland Hills (~10am). Perhaps Matt (slkluv) may want to caravan up to Pasadena from OrCo (we could meet at Costco on Technology Drive in Irvine, ~8am)?

My SoCal brothers continue to make Brian and I jealous. Wish we could be there. We will be in spirit. Welcome Bleen...you are in good hands with this crew. Just don't think anything of it when Eddy starts taking pics of your food!

Do you guys call my work just so you can schedule stuff on the one Saturday I work a month ?

Sounds great, will see if anyone is willing to trade Saturdays with me. But, is there a particular reason it has to start so early? I mean, I'll wake up for it because I want to go, but just want to know if there's a... alright, nevermind, if I wanted to set schedules, I should've stuck to planning, I'll stfu now .

Hope to make it, but if not, have fun and take lotsa pics!
