Are you sure it has one? The parts diagram does not list one.

Hi, yes I'm sure as the other side has the rubber seat/pad, its not listed as a separate part because you cant buy the rubber from MB, MB only supply this rubber with the strut

I had to buy a strut for this pad - so it is true.

Might as well replace the strut since one has the whole assembly?

Has anybody found a source for these rubber seats ?

My 350 failed the MOT due to a broken nearside front spring and my local stealership wants the princely sum of Ł850 to fix it !!

This includes two new springs and one strut as apparently the rubber seat at the top of the broken spring has gone walkabout and these are only available with the strut not separately.

If I could source a rubber bit then I assume an indy could fit two new front springs at vastly reduced cost !

If you look at the WIS posted somewhere here, you'll see the rubber cups the springs seat in.

Bilstein sells replacement struts and shocks for your vehicle. I'm not sure if the cups come with their stuff. If so, you might check to see if this part is available separately. If no luck there, then the junk yard.

If it were my car, I'd replace the struts with the Yellow Bilsteins either B6 for standard suspension or B8 for sport. The springs you'll have to get from MB.

I have just replaced all 4 springs (n/s/f broken & o/s/r broken), 2 front shock tops, and 4 shock absorbers.

The springs are standard original fitment from Mercedes.
The shock tops are also from Mercedes.
The shocks are B6 items from Bilstein.

The only parts used from the original set up are the rubber spring seats on the front shocks, these do not come with the Bilstein shocks and are necessary to align the springs correctly.

I am wondering if you could talk to the Merc dealer and see if they could special order the rubber seats, even though they don't seem to have a part number. They really should sell separately as they have a part number for every other rubber component that can fail with age/heat exposure over time. Maybe you should press the issue more with Mercedes. After all, customer service is supposed to be what Mercedes is about!

I had 2 front springs replaced a few weeks ago by my local indy in Ayr. One had the rubber cup missing...it fell out on the road between Sanquar and the M74..

Anyhow..he had one on an old strut lying in the workshop which he used at no extra charge. Ł300 total.

Thanks for all your help with this! After much arguing this is actually being fixed under the Tier 1 warranty that I have on the car. Dealership ( Hughes, Aylesbury ) initially said that the spring wasn't covered as there was some corrosion present but when I contacted the warranty company they said " Yes, that's covered, no problem ". Hughes then said that the spring could be done but I'd have to pay for the shock as there wasn't any proof that the broken spring has caused the rubber to disappear, but after speaking to the warranty company again they have agreed to cover the cost of that as well.

So, less than great service from Hughes, but Les from Mercedes Warranty Services was really helpful.

I wonder how much of this is due to the dealership not wanting the additional hassle of a warranty claim, and most Mercedes customers just saying 'ok' when presented with a large bill !
