New Tires/Tire Rack

I just ordered new front tires from tirerack.com with free shipping and free two years Tire Rack Road Hazard Protection and no taxes. Pretty great! They will ship tires to Tire Kingdom, I only need to schedule an appointment and pay for installation.

I got wheel alignment done about month ago and was told tires are still good but I'm hearing tire noise. Car has about 44,000 miles. Carfax doesn't show IF or when tires were replaced.

Is it possible that tires were never replaced? Generally, how long do tires last?

It is possible that your front tires are original. Highly unlikely the rear tires are original though. The SLK tends to munch rear tires. The odds are the front tires have been replaced at least once in the rear tire is at least three times. But that’s just my experience. YMMV
In that amount of time, Sarge will of been through at least five sets of rears, and four sets of fronts.

@Mensra front could be original but I'm surprise they lasted over 40k miles.

I ordered Continental EXTREME CONTACT DWS 06.

The exact same tires I have on my car. Great minds think alike. You have great taste in rubber.

No, stick with DWS06 tires. They are ones I have been running now for 2.5 years. They are the best of all worlds... for someone like me who live in frigid NE (Massachusetts) where our winters can be bad, the DWS06 performs like a champ... especially in wet roads. It is da best all-round A/S tire IMHO.

And I am on my second set of rears and front tires (Conti DWS06).... car has 51,xxx miles.... New ones added in January this year and look to be in great shape and likely to last about 25K more miles before needing replacement.

+1 on DWS06 are great in rain. I used to be all Michelin but lately I find the BFG Comp-2 A/S (same company) to be a better Florida tire particularly in the monsoon season (on Friday I had a bow wave going).

OK Jeff. How about, these Contis are super quiet, have good grip/traction on all road surfaces, excellent handling, and long lasting thread life (25K miles+ on a RWD car is pretty decent).... would that fit into Floriduh driving as well?

So I just learned that it's okay to use summer tires for Florida all year round. It does get very cold in the winter around 60s but never snow.

Its hard to really judge tire condition without removing the wheel or putting the car on a rack. Ours seemed ok on the car, to me at least, but once off I could see the inside front had too much wear.

Good piece of information is the DOT manufacturing date that is stamped into the sidewall of the tire (not raised like the molded information). It shows last two digits of year and I think week of the year.

There is a true Floridian quote if I have ever seen one! LOL The DWS will probably last a little longer, but next time you could get DW's.

DOT AF5N WC5W 3117 is stamped on tires, when are they manufactured? I don't know how to read that.

That would be week 31 2017 or July 31st to August 6th 2017.
That means that they are already two years old.........

What's the rule in the EU something like can't sell tires more than 3 years old. I think my tire guy won't mount a tire older than 5 years.

Tyres in the UK are generally considered new and fit for retail up to five years from date of manufacture provided they have been properly stored.
Recommendation for car tyres is replacement after 7 to 10 years but much will depend on usage, exposure to UV etc. Any evidence of cracking or perishing at any age would be cause for concern and should be checked.
