SLK32 AMG new tires scrape the wheel wells

I have put on new tires on my SLK32. They are the correct size for the car. When I hit a bump or dip in the road the tires scrape the wheel wells. Do I need new shocks or struts?
If so what type would I use and is it a difficult job to install them? I am pretty good at turning a wrench but have never put on shocks or struts.
Thanks

They are 17" wheels the original AMG wheels . Don't know the offset. The tires are Firestone Firehawk Indy500. Fronts are 225/45/17 and the rears are 245/40/17 which are the correct size for the car.
I have never had the shocks changed. Could they be the problem?
Thanks
