I’m looking for brakes and pads...

... and when I popped up a Brembo front, I got the following message:

“Not for cars with AMG Performance Package Code 030 /P30”

The “030” I’m familiar with, but I’ve never seen the P30 code, and neither of those codes are on my VIN Data Card. Just curious.

030 and p30 are similar. i think the p30 is for like sl s, etc

if you do not see it on your datacard, chances are you do not have it
if you do have the parts of 030 option, they might have been added afterwards and the datacard was not requested to be updated by owner

do you have things like

AMG Performance Package:
• AMG leather- and Alcantara-trimmed sport steering wheel
with shift paddles.
• 174-mph speed limiter.25
• AMG sport suspension with “Nürburgring” calibration.
• AMG compound braking system.
• 18" AMG twin-spoke multipiece wheels.7
• Carbon Fiber trim.

I thought you already did a thread on this? If 030 isn't on your data card, then you don't have it. It was very rare.

Nope, none of those, and no 030 on my datacard. Just curious about p30. Not anymore.

Thanks,

Bart

Jbanks15 can’t find post. All others, opinions welcomed

Hi Jeff — I have to direct the shop that’s doing all the pads and rotors as to what specific pads and rotors to get. You had sent me a reference to a post that showed what you used — IIRC, Akebono pads, undrilled M-B rotors in the gray coating for the rear, but I can’t remember what you used for the fronts. Could you please tell me, or repost the link? I’d really appreciate it.

Everybody: I’d be more than grateful for any recommendations for front and rear rotors and ceramic pads for all four wheels of my 2005 M-B SLK55 AMG, NOT TO INCLUDE THE BREMBO 2-PIECE FRONTS. I DO NOT HAVE THE CODE 030 or P30 performance package.

As always looking for the best bang for the buck.

Thanks to all for more-or-less putting up with a clueless noob, absolutely new to the SLK world. Sorry if I’ve accidentally posted twice, or in the wrong place. I’m in the third week of a back spasm that just won’t go away. Welcome to old age...

Thanks

Thanks for the reply and link. My fronts are 6 pot, rears are 4 — anybody reading this thread who has 6-pot front brakes, and has replaced their 2-piece, iron rotor w/aluminum hats with NON-Brembo/“Mercedes” fronts, I’d certainly appreciate knowing what you used.

Thanks!

I have some pads on order, should be here tomorrow. I'll update you soon. The non-NB vendors seem to have a blind spot for 2005 SLK 55's.

2006 are 6 pots also, so you can use that. I will be putting Akebono pads in shortly, I am sick of the dust on the fronts.

Which Akebonos are compatible with the six-pot, 340MM, fronts?

Back to rotors for a moment... interesting PVT Brembo 340mm front, bi-directional rotors

Ain’t that the truth!

This message is neither spam nor a recommendation or endorsement for newparts.com, but an example of the pricing for the specially cast “PVT-vented” Brembo 340mm rotors:

https://www.newparts.com/product/099...pvt-340-x-32mm

Brembo
Front Disc Brake Rotor Brembo part number 09.9254.33
Aluminum Hat & Special Cast Iron Braking Surface

$265.95 EACH (sales rep I talked to yesterday said I could knock about $28 off each rotor, which would make a pair of these Brembo replacements about $476.00, which is still a pretty stiff price. Checked a couple other sites, and Brembo part number 09.9254.33 IS (AFAICT) the 340mm diameter for 6-pot front pistons (though Amazon, as usual, has next to Brembo part number 09.9254.33, a picture of a solid, one-piece rotor which is god knows what). The specs, however, are correct:

Your Selected Vehicle:
Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG 2005

This product fits this position on your 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG:
* Front

Notes: Composite/Floating: Floating, Min TH (Discs)/Max Diameter (Drums) (mm): 30, Nominal Thickness (mm): 32, Outside Diameter (mm): 340, EXCEPT Performance Package [Code 030 or P30]

RE: the “Special Cast Iron Braking Surface (slk55-amg-front-left-or-right-disc-brake-rotor-vented-pvt”) [I wish I knew how to post a photo here, but since my ancient standby “Photobucket” seems to have died, and Apple has made Dropbox useless, except for copy-and-paste, if you want to see the pictures, including the PVT (Pillar Venting Technology) cutaway, you’ll have to go to the URL]. The “Pillar Venting Technology” allows the rotors to fit either left or right side. Instead of the cast internal rotor vents being direction-specific curving left-or-right parallel arc diverters, the PVT “heat flow diverters” are multi-shaped-and-placed and bi-directional.

Still wish I could find something considerably less expensive for rotors.

The pictures of the BP847 on amazon.com don't match the shape of the six-pot pads. As for the comments about "stock photos", notice the photos actually show the part numbers, so I believe the photos to be accurate.

Post a few pictures... or remove a brake pad and count the number of round circles you see impressed on the non-pad side... or look down where the pad was and count the number of pistons (three per side = six-pot caliper).

6 Front caliper pots or 4? YOU make the call!

I currently have no way — tools, space, lift, etc., — nor the physical ability, thanks to a back spasm that just won’t go away, to remove a brake pad or caliper, which is why I’m having a shop do the work. But here’s what Car & Driver had to say about the brakes in a June 1, 2005 road test of the 2005 SLK55 AMG:

A pullout from Dave Vanderwerp’s (and others’) article and road test of the 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG, Car & Driver magazine, June 1, 2005

AMG demonstrates that for once it's not all about the engine.

AMG upsized the brakes by 0.4 inch in front and 1.6 inches in back, bringing the discs to 13.4 [340.36mm] and 13.0 inches [330.2mm], respectively. Assisting in stopping power are two additional pistons in each caliper, making the count six in each front binder and four in the rears. But the best part is that there's no electrohydraulic wizardry dishing out the braking force. In practice, the brakes produced absolutely fade-free stops from 70 mph in an impressive 156 feet—better than any other vehicle we've tested in the current AMG lineup and even outdoing the $455,750 SLR McLaren. They're also 14 feet better than the Corvette, 19 better than the SLK350, and just three feet worse than the Porsche Boxster S.

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...-amg-road-test

From Bill’s Den, official M-B brochure for Model Year 2005 USA-spec Model 171:

“AMG high-performance brake system with 6-piston fixed calipers and compound brake disks at the front and 4-piston fixed calipers and internally ventilated brake disks at the rear.”
