Wheel refurb at Main dealer

Had a little bump in the 55 a month or so back which damaged the wing, over sill, door and nearside front wheel, all being sorted on insurance, so decided to tell them to refurb the 3 remaining wheels at my cost to keep the old girl looking her best, imagine my dismay, shock, horror after getting the invoice for that service, how much you may ask? 40 a wheel, 60, 80 100, your thinking no it couldn't be more, YOUR WRONG, 145 per wheel, that's right 435 for the job. So be warned don't let the main dealer refurb your wheels. Got to admit though they do look the dogs do dahs. Told the wife I've bought her a new set of wheels for Christmas, should be a fun day!

They'll have got a specialist to do the job and charged double what the specialist charged them.

Garage
Question

For that price, I would take them all off and check the quality of the work.
Make sure they have lacquer all the way around.
The body repairs are guaranteed so do the wheels have the same guarantee?

Cheers Russ

Redleaders wheels were 'done' by the dealer that she bought the car from and they did look nice. Unfortunately, a couple of days after getting the car she clipped a kerb on a rather nasty kink in the road.

Recently, took the car to a specialist to see about having the wheel refurbished. His comment on inspecting the wheel 'these have been done cheaply'. He could not guarantee that the silver would be the same colour. A few weeks later took the car to another specialist who thought he could match the colour. He looked that the wheel and then the others 'did a dealer do these'? 'Yes'. 'They've used a man in a van for these and look at this, the lacquer is coming away, they need doing properly'.

I know it is easy to slag off another work in order to get a job but with two specialists saying it is a bad job it seems it IS a bad job. Thet both quoted 300 for a 'proper' job......that is for all 4.

Suppose Ian he had to charge you the same price he was charging the insurance company.....now why are premiums so high....

Do do a proper job on four wheels would easily cost at least $600 here. It's a lot of work to remove the wheels from the car, tires from the rims, check them for straightness, perhaps straighten them, and do all the preliminary preparations before painting. The painting might require a primer coat, several color coats, and finally a protective clear coat.

You people never consider all the work involved in things, and of course, your first consideration is price. As I see it, you cheapskates get what you paid for.

Yup, what @SilverSLK2010 says.
Had my AMG V's done some 2 years ago.
Repaired, straightened, several layers of paint and clear coat, diamond cut with CNC lathe.
Total something like 1,000-1,1000. Almost half the price of a set new ones. Ah well, it's only money and they do look great again.

Two wheels appear to be slightly different colour than the other two, been sent back by Mercedes to be re-powder coated, hopefully they'll be all the same this time.
