Upsizing of wheels

Hi guys.

I’ve tried to search on forum for some answer but I’m getting different answers all the time.

Background: I found a set of wheels online; that is 19x8.5 with 245/35-19 square setup(all the wheels are the same).

My question: according to some in forum;
-You should keep your wheels at max 26 inches in diameter.
- maximum 5% difference in diameter, recommended 3%.

If not the ABS and cruise control may malfunction.

With 245/35-19, the wheel diameter is 25.7 inches which is under 26 inches.

However. The percentage is relatively.
I’ve currently got:
Front: 225/45-17
Rear: 245/40-17

Which gives higher percentage of difference compared to:
Front: 225/40-18
Rear: 245/35-18

My plan is to use the square setup of 245/35-19 since the tyres are brand new.

And when those tyres are worn, I’m getting:
Front: 225/35-19 or 235/35-19
Rear: 255/30-19 or 255/35-19

Anyone else running the this setup and having issues with ABS and/or cruise control?

Do you think a profile of 30 so to low?

Thanks in advance!

//Phil

What is the offset of the wheels? I have 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 on mine with 235 and 265. The front is VERY tight, offset needs to be perfect to run a 235 on a 8.5 wheel. Rear still has a little room and I think I can run a 275 no problem. I am running michelin PSS which are known to be wide too.

Agree, the offset is the key. Too little and a big tire will rub the front inner wheel well at full lock. Also the tire may contact the upper outer fenderwell lip (171 has more clearance than a 170). 171s have the front issue of a very high caliper that may also be a problem.

Problem is that the correct offset varies with the wheel width and style.

@phil, first off, I will counsel AGAINST running a square setup... there is a very good reason MB made them staggered.. but if you must, it's your decision....

To your question regarding a "low" 30mm tire, here is my setup...

rims: 19x8 (front), 19x9 (rear)
tires: 235/35/19 (front), 265/30/19 (rear)

Drives like a dream

Upsizing of wheels

@phil. Im also running the 235/35 19s on my SLK350, and consider these at the limit of narrow. Ride is firm and right, but I can feel every one of the 1/2 seed pods in my driveway on the way out. On the front.
