Benefit / Downsides from 255 to 265 tyre's?

My AMG 55 R172 is currently on 19's with 255/30 tyres at the rear. What are the benefits and negatives please of increasing to a 265/30 tyre?

I just know that all rims, in my case 18 inch, I was told by my mb guy not to exceed 255
i just assume even on a 19 inch, which of course is not oem/standard, the same would apply

Just as an aside, over on the R170 clone forum the stock rear wheels are 19x9 and people run up to 285s. Just do not exceed about 26" diameter to avoid rub. This applies to both R170 and R171.

Front and rear diameter must be within 3% of each other not to confuse the ABS/TC.

Tried mine with 255x35x19s but the ride was far too harsh, like the 245x50x16s a lot better.

Thanks. I have decided to stick with 255/30 19's and will be having a full set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s fitted on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing if the PS4s lives up to its hype..

Look forward to hearing about the PS4's after you have had a bit of time on them. Different car but I have them on my radar for my A250 when they need replacing later this year. Word on the street is that the PS4's are a better choice as an upgrade than a remap for basic performance gains. The thinking is that being able to stick is better than a few more horses and not sticking so well to the floor

I have been running PS4s on my 2007 impreza wrx for the past 10 months. They feel a lot more sticky than the PS3s they replaced in all weather conditions although I think they may be a dB or 2 louder but I can live with that as it’s a noisy car anyway. I don’t know what they will be like on an SLK but I would say go for it, I don’t think they will disappoint.

You'll get a slightly higher speedo error due to the larger overall diameter. The wider tyre would give you a larger footprint which should aid traction. The extra weight of rubber means you'll lose a bit of performance. Your ground clearance will go up slightly and your arch gap will be less giving the impression that the car looks lowered compared to standard. Depending on your rim width the wider tyre will offer more protection to the rim from pothole and curb damage.

I'm running 265/30s Conti Sport Contact 6 on my 19"s but have stuck with OEM sizes on my 18"s which coincidentally are shod in PS4's which I have found to be excellent!

On the Dawg (2007 SLK350), I'm running 235/35/19 on the front, and 265/30/19 on the rear, been doing it for at least 3 years, not an issue. Ride isn't maybe as smooth as when I was running on 17 inch rims with higher profile tires, but I haven't really noticed a difference on day to day driving. To me it's a non issue. In fact I was on the race track 3 times last year, the car performed just fine.

"235/35/19 on the front, and 265/30/19 on the rear" both are about 25.5" diameter so should be fine. Need to be careful about the offset though to avoid contact at full lock with the fronts and at the top of the wheel opening in the rear.

car comes with 18

you can get 19 as an option of course and if after the fact, can get it added to the datacard

280 datacards, by error, all say 19 inch wheels

I have PSS 235 front and 265 rears. I have a tiny bit less understeer than stock and the tires are much grippier than the oem tires. I have a tune on my 55 and I get mild spin at WOT from a stop. With the Conti's I could spin through all of 1st and a bit in 2nd. PSS have a little better grip in dry conditions, but PS4 are a major step up in wet. PS4 are a little better for noise and cold temps also.
