1998 SLK 230 Need new Tires

I brought my new to me 1998 SLK 230 in for a safety and they said i need new tires on the back. they said i can get Pirelli P4's for $180 or something so i said sure. Today I was looking at the tires and they are all 205/55/R16 and the wide rims are on the front... is this a big deal?

I looked online and noticed its hard to find back tires for this car what do you guys recommend I get for back tires if I need to replace them?

On the driver door it says to use only Michelin, continental, Pirelli, or Dunlop tires how important is this?

The wider rims should be on the back. The correct tire sizes are

Front: 205x55x16
Rear: 225x50x16

You need to find a tire that meets your driving needs. Brands is not deciding factor but what meets your needs, driving style and weather conditions you will be driving under.

Also you should decide whether you want directional or not. I went with Continentals DWS. These are non-directional so I can rotate them (at least left and right but not front and rear) for even wear. With directional ones you'll be stuck with them till they turn into dust

Condi Extreme Contact DWS is an all season tire. D=dry, W=wet, and S=snow. Good write up on the web about these.

Okay I am taking the car back to the mechanic who put the wrong tires on and getting them to refund me or something i will see if i can get the Condi Extreme Contact DWS tires on the back.

As for the front is it a big deal if i just keep the Pirelli P4's? or should i sell them and get new front tires to match the back?

Sorry for all the questions this is my first car.

The P4's are all season tires also and you are good with them just get the correct sizes. The Conti Extreme Contact DWS by Tirerack.com gives it a small rating better than the P4 All Season.

Bottom line, check rims the 7J x 16 are on the front with 205x55x16 tire and the 8J x 16 rim with 225x50x16 tire

On the back of the rims on a spoke you will find the marking for the rim size.

They put 225/55/R16 on the back and it should be 225/50/R16.
Costco said they cant get any Conti Tires would be the next best?
