more wheel questions

Back in March I posted a 'for sale' in some 18" wheels and tires for my 170 that I just bought before my care developed an electrical problem that convinced me to update to an 2012 SLK. All that said I didn't get any play on the wheels so I want to use the tires on my '12. (I asked about using the wheels and tires on my 12 and was told about the lugs and seats are not compatible). So, I'm shopping for wheels and most that I'm seeing for the rear are 9.5 with a 35mm offset. The eBay fit guide says they are not compatible? Anyone use 9.5" wheels (255-35-18's) on their 172 SLK's? See any issues using 225-40-18's up front? A fitment chart that is on line says 18's with 8.5, 35mm, 225/40's and 9.5, 35mm, 255/35's are a fit? I'm confused!

On a side note, while having my 20k service done, they told me that the passenger rear wheel had a crack, another reason that I'm shopping for wheels. Anyone else have any crack issues with their factory wheels?
Thanks

I use:
Front: 8.5J, 235/40/R18
Rear: 9.5J, 255/35/R18

I understand 225 is also ok on fronts.
