Yup... Im a newbie with a boost question.

So Im a new SLK owner. Recently bought a 2002 slk320 AMG that looks brand spanking new and only 60k on the odometer.

My question is about the boost. Most times i stomp the pedal, revs climb, madness ensues.

But occasionally, I'll stomp the pedal, revs climb, then just a slow increase in speed. Seemingly no boost!??!

Can you help me understand how it should take off at highway speed and or off the line?

Thanks in advance,

John

There is no SLK 320 AMG.

If you have an SLK 320, there's no boost.

If you have an SLK 32, then indeed there should be boost. :)

Is the transmission downshifting some times, but not others?
Get your datacard and see as bumpa stated
You might have a 320 with either poser Amg tag
Or Amg body kit
But without the slk 32 kompressor
No boost for you
i see

Obviuously, Ive come to the right place....

After checking the badging, you a correct and Im newbie. Its an SLK32 AMG.

Yes, it downshifts without issue. Most times it takes off like a rocket. But perhaps 20% of the time speed will increase leisurely with revs slowly climbing.

Its a monumental difference so pressumably It was supercharger. What are your thoughts?

No, AMG is legit. Kompressor badging and two blowers under hood
When I had an SRT6 (same engine as SLK32), something like that happened on occasion when the intercooler pump was going out. You can search here, and on crossfireforum.org, for symptoms to see if it sounds similar - it's been a while since I had the car.
Welcome from central Ohio

TWO BLOWERS?!? That would be unique! Do you mean one supercharger and two air filter boxes?

bumpa2 is right, your symptoms sound like a bad intercooler pump.
So I tried the techron today, but i cant say i noticed any impact with the half tank of fuel used.

Suspecting it might be tension on one of the pulleys, i applied some belt tac which provided some moderate improvement. Off the line theres plenty of boost. 40-60 plenty of boost t get up over 80 in a hurry.

But when cruising at 70 or so, theres no hard acceleration to higher speeds. Seemingly no boost. Looking more into belt tension tomorrow, if you have any insight it would be greatly appreciated.
techron, per the bottle, says to put in, in a near empty tank

Your symptoms still point to a dead intercooler pump.

Belt tension is not the issue.
Thanks. I appreciate your response

Help me understand why you say intercooler?

I am leaning towards the supercharger clutch inasmuch as;
-high rpm clutch engagment issu
- a percentage of the time, the mechanism doesn't catch
- low rpm supercharger boost comes on consistently
PS BoostMonkey

You're right on belt tension, it's fine

Not the intercooler, the intercooler pump. The OEM pumps fail very early. With no coolant circulating to the intercooler, the intercooler heat soaks badly under boost. At low RPMS or for short periods, you may not notice. Boosting for longer periods, at high RPM, or in hot weather will cause the intake air temperature to rise high enough that the ECU will disengage the supercharger clutch to save the engine.

You will be able to see the excessively high IATs with an obd2 scanner.

Many people replace the oem Busch pump with a Johnson CM30 which lasts longer.

You'll have to enlighten me please on the engines geo. iOn a 2002, is the pump beneath the passenger side headlight?

Yes, that is the correct location.

Tim
I'm convinced. It'll be a mod in the spring when garage ain't so cold.

Two last questions. 1- is Johnson pump going to last longer and exact fit?
2- on a 2002, will I have to bleed the line after install ?

Thx
The Johnson CM30 is not an exact fit. If you search online you will find several writeups on it.
