Year of modification option code

Welcome to the wonderful world of EPC, where all your inconsistencies will come true and there is no fall back scenario in case a listed part still doesn't work properly in your car.

There is a hierarchy in the meaning of option codes being there or not:
Partnumber without any option code: last resort part
Partnumber with option code for the option itself (in your case 233): this will work if there are no 'overruling' partnumbers found
Partnumber with option code for the option itself PLUS your model/year with a minus sign: this will definitely not work on your car
Partnumber with option code for the option itself PLUS your model/year: you want this one

Always follow by the 'replaced by' guide. The old ones still work but are superseded because of who knows what, maybe a gremlin, maybe a different supplier.

The partslist is created at a certain date/time meaning they cannot exclude all model/years unless they were available upon release of this version of EPC. As a general rule of thumb: if something is listed for years 1 and 2 and not allowed for 3, you can bet it won't work for years greater than 3, even if that's not listed.

So in this case I would go for the 233 that is listed for my model/year and forget about the others. It may well be that last part (only 233 no YoMs) can work in your car but I wouldn't gamble on it. If the dealer comes back to you that your partnr is not available anymore and replaced by this 'general' one I would make sure he is the one doing the activation!

BTW, I went with A0009002302 (+803, -053, 803 being my YoM) You'll have the same exercise with the nose radar, I went with A0009053100.

Hmm, can't seem to edit the post you are referring to. @LeonardoDaBenz @Avel Du help please?

I am now looking at the rear radar sensor for Blind spot assist and for distronic.
A0009050110 - costs between 150-200 Euros - is not valid for 053 YoM 12/2
A0009055701 - costs 100 Euros, it's more commonly available - is valid for 053, along with 803 and onwards YoMs

BUT from 804 and onwards, the 053 is no longer mentioned.
How should I interpret this? 053 is MANDATORY for 803, and doesn't matter for 804 onwards?

If that's the case, then for the passenger control unit DTR (passenger footwell), I should probably get also the one that has option 053?
Meaning I shouldn't get A0009007300, which has 802 (my YoM, which doesn't mention 053), instead A0009005601 which is valid for 053, but has YoM 803?

This is exhausting...!!! :))) Fingers crossed that Steve Krabbenborg will be able to flash all these (messy) components I'm getting myself into...
If you want him to do the activation, make an appointment with him and put your partslist with VIN before him. He knows which parts will work and which don't. I've got a couple of radars in a box because of this trustworthy EPC. It appeared there are some errors in it that list radars that will not function with the proposed controller. PM me the radars you'll need and I'll have a look to see if I've got them here.
