Yeah I know :td:, but before you guys go throwing out the search word, I have searched; researched in fact I could prolly right a book on wheel fitments. What I am looking for is conformation of my findings.

· First the car: 2008 SLK 280 blk/blk/blk
· Second the limitations: it’s my wife’s car so absolutely no rubbing or too rough a ride but has to look good. I like an aggressive look so I want to push the limit of max offset without the possibility of rubbing.
· Third the issue: My wife has locked in on one wheel, (Milanni Wheels Baron Type 450 Phantom) :butt: I pretty much hate the wheel but hey it’s not my car, it comes in 18” diameter and 8” and 9” widths’ all of which is good the problem is they only come in two offsets each +40 and +20.
· The plan:
Front: 18x8 +40 offset with a 10mm spacer 225x40x18 Michelin Pilot Sport
Rear: 18x9 +40 offset with a 12mm spacer 255x35x18 Michelin Pilot Sport

· My thinking: Tire Rack recommends a 32mm offset on an 18x8.5 wheel. This adds 21mm to the front of the wheel and 17mm to the back I calculated the 18x8 Baron to be +7 and -19 adding 10mm spacer gives me +17 total adding aggression and still no rubbing. The rear, Tire Rack says +35 on a 18x9.5 yielding -24 and +14 and the Baron will be +3 and -23 adding 12mm will give me +15 total.
Ok guys help me check the math on this so I don’t order 4 really expensive door stops.

I’m thinking these wheels will look better then the stock 16” but nowhere near the potential awesomeness it could be.

offset is often misunderstood. The greater the offset number the closer in the wheel is to the car. So your greatest danger is rubbing the calipers or the suspension. smaller offset number will push the wheel out from the car. The idea of offset is to keep the vertical line through the centre of the wheel and hub as much inline as possible. moving away from the OEM offset particularly outwards can place more strain on hub bearings etc. Its the law of the lever basically. You also need to be aware of your insurance cover. In the UK any modification from OEM needs to be checked with your insurer as it can invalidate your cover. especially running gear mods. Not sure about other countries but it does here

I currently have an M3 with aftermarket wheels with custom offsets I’m pretty solid on the concept. My goal for the SLK is to push the wheel as close to the fender as I can without incident. I'm not really concerned with the extra wear as ill gain added stability for the price, plus I'm not going for a "stance" look so it won’t be so bad. I just threw my numbers out there hoping someone would catch any mistakes I may have made before I order.

Oh and maybe someone could give me a better argument against the chosen wheel then “they look like Butt” for my wife I’d be happy!

OK this is my 18 x 255 tyres. as you can see they are about level with the wheel arch. If I had the suspension lowered they would probably rub every time the suspension compressed. If I take a sharp turn under power I Can get them to rub just a touch. There are cars on here with extended fenders. Not to my liking but each to his own.

I’ll have to get hub rings either way as I believe the bore on the Milanni's are 74.1 so it's just be an additional requirement when I order the spacers.
