You can purchase the material and adhesive at a local fabric shop, and do it yourself. I had to replace mine last summer, and it wasn't to difficult at all. The fabric shop in my area, Joanne's, offered different colors of the headliner. Just make sure you purchase "headliner" material. It has a bit of a foam backing on it. Good luck!

It's been 5 or 6 years when I had the same problem on my 1999 slk230. I ordered a kit for replacing headliners. Came with a spray adhesive and foam lined fabric. Don't remember where I got it. Results were great. Seems there is a video I watched online on how to replace on headliner on SLK230.

There is a panel you remove, then rip off old headliner material from panel. clean off loose glue. then spray adhesive on panel. smooth out fabric on panel, trim extra fabric with scissors, and replace panel into roof.

Hydraulic oil will prevent adhesive from working - it is possible to degrease it with repeated applications of degreaser (ive used Dawn).

Headliner

Yeah...the problem with covering it is the oil has soaked into the board....adhesive won't attach to that. Did soaking it in a detergent work for you?
The car is a 1998 SLK 320

I've had some headliners that I could clean, others I couldn't. Squirt with dawn, scrub with a small brush, rinse, repeat, repeat, repeat. Very labor intensove and time consuming. Don't rush or you'll break it!
