WTB Climatronic Module, part# A1718300685. Must be in first class condition, no broken tabs or fastening fixtures.
That doesn't seem like the correct part number for your model year car. Is this part to be used in the 2010 SLK listed in your profile? If so, if you provide your VIN I can provide you with the correct part number for this control unit. And welcome to the forum.

I have the correct part#. I could also use A1718300185. Anyway I sourced the part# from a parts guy who works for MB.

Either one will fit in any R171 SLK which is what I have, MY 2010, SLK 350.

If you know that you have the correct part number(s) then I shouldn't stand in the way. But . . . both the 01 85 and 06 85 are for cars manufactured up and until the end of 2008. Since yours is a 2010 MY car, it seems to me you may need another part number - the one for the production models after VIN 177100. I have been wrong before.

As Mark stated:

A1718300185 and
A1718300685
are only up to 3/31/2008

A1718301685 is from date 9/30/2007 from chassis F177100

So if your MB friend has access to EPC
let him punch your vin in there and see what part number is for your car :D
or again, we can get it 4 u

The following modules are functionally the same:

A1718300185
A1718300685
A1718301685

In fact, he says there are modules in other classes that would also do the job. The problem is I don't want to pay the price of a new part, so it'll have to come from a salvaged car. That limits the choices of what's available.

I did find two salvage yards that had the module:

LKQonline.com
Automotix.net

There was one at LKQ, but I didn't move fast enough. It was gone in a flash! I got lucky at the second site and secured an A1718301685 for $200. I hope it is in good condition, since there wasn't a picture. If it isn't, it's going back. I also picked up the multisensor and bracket off EBay.

I wouldn't normally update my cars, but after the SLK, I bought a BMW. It came with an auto climate control, and I thought that a classy car like the SLK should have such a magnificent option. :crying:

Looks like you ended up with the correct one for your car. As @jbanks15 noted the appearance of the 16 85 is different in that it has the black buttons as the rest of your car has (face lift features) but I believe that unit also added some additional functionality. The two earlier units were basically the same, but MB did resolve some operating issues with the 06 85 unit replacing the 01 85 unit.

If you have not already found them there are a couple of in depth threads on here on the conversion you are doing. You may want to add the sun sensor also.

Correcting Some Misinformation

@SilverSLK2010

As I thought, there is a substantial change in the description of the control system for the heat and A/C between the pre face lift models and the face lift as you have. Attached are the two discriptions:

Pre Face Lift: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1WpXQ0AD_F2SjJvRDBuR1Y5Zzg

Face Lift: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1WpXQ0AD_F2bncyYUdxTDl5MG8
I'll define my terms, Climatronic refers to unit with two large knobs at either end with a digital display between the knobs. Manual refers to unit with four knobs.

You can verify my information at GetMercedesPart.com or MercedesPartsDelivered.com.

First 1718300185 and 1718300685 are both Climatronic units. The former has been replaced with the latter. It is the only Climatronic module listed available for my car on either Mercedes Part Sites.

JBanks or Mchild brought up part# 1718301685. This is a Manual unit which has been replaced with 1718302385. I don't know what these have to do with the discussion, since I want a Climatronic.

I wouldn't trust EPC searching for part of this kind. The last four digits distinguish what it is, and a visual representation or picture is what's needed to be sure.

I'm still looking for 1718300685. I may have to spring for a new part which costs $660, ouch! Well it's a Mercedes.:crying:

@SilverSLK2010 @mchild

1685 is automatic/climatronic, not manual as you just stated

1685 is part 30 in picture
How many knobs do you see? I see 2 as you describe as automatic/climatronic

"Climatronic refers to unit with two large knobs at either end with a digital display between the knobs."

If you would only post your VIN much of this discussion could be cut short. You are correct that the 01 85 unit is superseded by the 06 85. A point you seem to be missing is the 16 85 unit is used in cars from chassis number 177100. So, if your VIN has the last six digits higher than 177100, then your car uses the 16 85 unit. I would not put more faith in the online sites than the MB official parts catalog - but that just me.

The 01 85 and 06 85 units have the older style silver buttons while the 16 85 has the newer facelift black buttons, plus it has enhanced functionality. If your car has black buttons on either side of the emergency flasher switch above the HVAC controls, then you have a facelift model and the 16 85 is the correct unit for your car. If the buttons are not black, but silver, then you don't have a facelift car and the 06 85 is the correct unit.

Good luck.

I disagree. The part 1718301685 is a manual unit. Take a look at the following:

BEDIENTEIL Heizung Klima Original Mercedes Benz R171 W171 SLK 1718301685 | eBay

Make sure you scroll down to see both the front and back.

BTW, this part has been replaced with 1718302385.

I have searched all the Mercedes part site, and I get the same results. You can do the same. In fact, just search on the part # 1718301685, and you'll see that it is a manual unit.

Interestingly or not, 1718302385 can be bought for $402, cheapest price, while 1718300685, Climatronic unit, costs $660.

The cosmetic issue is a red herring. Whether it comes in Silver/Black or Black/Silver won't make any difference to operation and either will look OK.

Your quote

You are believing an ad description and picture on ebay over your own eyes?
do you not see the words automatic for 1685 in my post and pics above and below from Mercedes EPC?

1718301685
Operating Unit
Automatic Air Condition

Good luck with your search.
