My baby (July) 2007 SLK 55 AMG in Red is dead :(

 My fella was driving home in it Tuesday evening when he stopped to take a right turn and a Transit van hit him at over 50mph. Merc picked up the car and today tell me its to bad to repair as it will cost over £40k min. It needs a re-shell, the backend is about 25inch's shorter and even needs a gearbox.

I will post some pictures over the next few days.

Next I am sure will be the insurance company of the other driver offering me nothing for the car. I want to buy another one ASAP so if anyone here works for a dealer and can help with a price to replace that would be great.

The Merc assist have given me a C180Sport for the next 5 days but just miss the AMG.

Thanks

Lauren x

REAL sorry to hear it Lauren, but believe me, I know what you're going through. Main thing is if no one was hurt - cars can be replaced. Corny I know, but take a breather and relax for a couple days. Then think about something else if you feel up to it by then. I'm sure insurance will look after you and take it from there.

From another totalled '55 owner...

Ouch sorry to hear that, when the Ins Co. come back with a value gimme a shout and i will see whats available.

Was having a butchers at the system earlier on actually to see what the values are, might struggle on the great deal front since the credit crunch and fuel prices are keeping people away from the bigger engined cars so the margins are cut to move the bloody things, I've forgotten was your's new or second-hand?

Sorry to hear Lauren. As long as everyone is fine physically with no major injuries. The rest can be sorted out.

It was a demo from Merc (Wolerhampton) I called Len there today to see if they still had that 57 Plate red one but it went last week. New mine was £63k I paid £54k when it had 2000 miles on it. I just want to try and replace it ? but mine had nearly every extra on it.

Its a right mess I will post some pictures.

Thanks All

Lauren

I know somewhere a 2006 56 in red is available or a 2008 57 in a designo blue, think the spec was high on the both.

Is red a must?

Don't see that many in red mind you, fairly rare.

Sorry to hear about this lauren, the other day I was thinking why you havent posted after the introductory thread and I am really sorry to know you have to bother with not having to drive your red SLK55 AMG and with the insurance.

I hope you can get a new one shortly.

I am really sad end just to see those pictures, its terrible being separated from a car that you truly love. It just shows me how I should enjoy my car more and drive it more often, I hope you will be in an SLK55 AMG soon Lauren.

I'm actually very impressed, that rear wall in the trunk (with the navi) looks almost untouched and for a 50MPH smash that's bloody amazing so all credit to the little girl.

I think we should shows pic's like this not hide them because it shows the strength of the car, actually i remember putting a smashed E class in the lobby at work and showing people who asked just how strong the shell is.

Look at the bright side, no one was seriously hurt and you have the chance to get another SLK 55.

I'm so sorry about the news! Hopefully he is okay.

Thanks for posting the photos. I cringed looking at them, but it is good to see how the car holds up in those situations.

I second Dan. It's painful to see ANY SLK come to harm, but at the same time I think people should see it because MOST cars would not look anywhere near that *good* (relative term) after a 50mph rear end collision. The rear window looks like it's still intact, and the damage doesn't seem to spread much further than the rear quarter panels! I'm sure there's more hidden damage but still, from the looks of it your guy walked away from the accident most likely but with a sore neck? I sure hope so, as in Fishtailinz case the most important thing is that no one was hurt, the car did its job. The second most important thing is replacing her!
