Since the offset is wrong to the positive side, you could always add spacers if needed to bring them out. If you go stock tire sizes of 225/245 I think you would be ok.

I had a load of trouble finding a set to fit my old R171 350 and ended up buying AMG alloys.
The problem is getting the front wheels to clear the brake callipers. They either will or they won’t - it’s down to spoke design not so much the offset so the only way to find out is to trial fit them or get some known to fit.

I am looking at getting aftermarket wheels on my 2005 SLK 350. I am looking at getting 18X9.5s in the back and 18X8.5s in the front. It was looking like the recommended offset is 32-35 mm but does anyone know if these wheels at 40 in the back 38 in the front would work/look ok?

As I posted in another thread on a similar car, the 2005 SLK350 has 7.5" wide/ ET +36/+37 (front) and 8.5" wide/ET +30/+34 (rear) as the link here spells out... https://www.wheel-size.com/

Going from 7.5"//+36 to 8.5"//+40 (front) and running 225-235/40/18s should fit OK
Going from 8.5"//+34 to 9.5"//+38 (rear) and running 245-265/35/18s should also fit OK

These changes are not significantly different from stock 17"s, and should not cause rubbing anywhere close to the fenders, nor should you need spacers. About the only concern would be the spoke design if it would clear your brake calipers, as @Mugs suggested.

BTW, these rims are really beautiful, and classy looking. :tu: but the rim specs says 73.1mm hub which may not fit since our cars use 66.6mm hubcentric rims, so check into that as well.

I believe most wheels are supplied with spigot rings to take the centre bore to the correct diameter, at least every set I have bought came with them.
