Wipers juddering?

2484 Views 15 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Beekster
I fitted new wiper blades in november, yet they are now juddering like mad in anything but heavy rain. Not sure if they got damaged in the snow/ice, they don't like the rain repellent on the wind screen or if they're just worn out already?

Any suggestions?

They're bosch ones so hardly cheap ebay jobs.

Thanks

Allways use genuine ones never have issues etc
The blade maybe damaged by the cold weather / ice
Or the windcreen additive ?

Theres a right way up on these blades also .

Or they may not be fitted correctly ?

Ive seen some right bodge ups with fitting of blades and not just mercs .
wiper blades

I have always used white vinegar to clean them off when they start playing up.

Well they were working hunky dory until a few weeks ago so I doubt they are fitted incorrectly.

Is there a place to buy genuine ones online or do you have to visit a dealer? Seems strange that you would HAVE to use genuine though, never had to before with any of my previous cars.

Worth a try I guess!

Thanks
I use Bosch wipers on all my vehicles including my SLK 350 and have had great success with them. I clean them with a damp rag weekly.
It will be the rain repellent. I use Gtechniq G1/G2 which is fantastic stuff. The instructions say the wipers may judder for a week, but will wipe smoothly after that. It also suggests applying some rain repellent directly to the blades to reduce juddering.

If they still judder, try removing the rain repellent with something like IPA or methylated spirits.

I wonder who makes the blades for Mercedes then? >:D
Simple
if they Judder on the way up, twist the Arm down or away From the Screen.
if they Judder on the way down do the opposite.
As easy peesey as lemon sqeezey

SWF do for Mercedes the slk at the moment . >:D

But it could be another manufacture next year or whenever .
Racing Blue has the right answer. The wipers will take a set if left alone. They will be pointing up because of the way they sit every time after shutting them off. What you have to do is to bend the arm in the direction opposite of where they are pointing to make them neutral in their position, so they will flop to either side when in use. What you have is the wipers pointing up all the time and not flopping over to the other side to do the wiping. Either that or replace them with new more frequently, but at $40 / each from MB that is not the answer in my book.

Never ever found the need to twist the actual arm as in the metal arm . :surprise:

If your having wiper issues its normally :

1 you have not been cleaning your screen often
2 the windcreen being covered by some film residue
3 the windscreen wash fluid
4 you have cheap wiper blades
5 and yes even well known blades can cause issues as they are made to fit numerous hundreds of cars .
6 some sod has walked over your cars windscreen / arms and yes then they need adjusting .
7 you have used your wipers on a frosty / snowy day ( and that will ruin them )
8 fitted incorectly
9 wrong way up ( some older ones have spoilers on them )
10 newer ones are directional

Failing all that just use your car in the summer only

And when on offer the genuine blades you can pick them up for circa £24.00. >:D

Me too! I use the Griot's Garage 6" random orbital buffer and their fine glass polish, followed by their Glass Sealant...an alcohol formula similar to Rain-X. Polishing the windshield is part of each car's late winter-into-spring full detail project.
