Ii did before i posted this thread and did not find anything helpful.
So does anyone know where the filter is? I have removed everything around the passenger seat and have not spotted it yet.

I'd have to check for a 170 but i believe its in a similar location as the 171.

So 171 on the passenger side remove the under dash trim once its out you will see the airbox (its big and white), it has a flat bottomed section that shaped roughly like a triangle.

It has 2 cream colored clips on it, slide them out of the way and the cover will drop down on that one side then you can pull it towards you and it will pop right out, the filter will also want to drop out so you really need about 8 hands for it.

When you put it back together make sure the alignment is perfect otherwise you will get cold air rushing out, sometimes this is unavoidable and we use a thin piece of rubber with the consistency of a door seal and put it either on the flap or on the airbox this then seals the gap when the flap is closed.

From your description, it sounds as though the cabin air filter is a real bear to remove and replace. And I must note that my local MB dealer charges handsomely to do so!

What would happen if one were to have the darned thing removed, and just not replace it -- to not have one. Old guys like me drove cars for decades without them, and seem to have suffered no ill effects. Why is a cabin air filter needed?

 

It just helps to clean the air that enters the cabin, removes some of the nasties that sort of thing.

If you run without it i can't see any big with that apart from the fact that it would be feeding dirtier air into the car, you do risk solid particles that get accelerated by the blower and are normally caught by the filter hitting one of the thin flappers that control the airflow and damaging it but its not like the A/C is going to be throwing rocks at you because the intake is protected.

The filter also removes the junk that we breathe out when the car is in recirc mode but again its not going to do any harm without it being there.

 

Ok i removed the passenger compartment (under the glove box) and I must say that i still don't know where it is. There is a big white plastic box. Am i supposed to open it?
Are there any pics whatsoever anywhere on the net?

Yes it has cream clips you slide them out of the way and the bottom of the box pivots down.

 

I took some pictures after i removed the black cover under the glovebox.
Still not sure where the filter is. Can anyone spot it?

 

OK disconnect the electrical connector going into the airbox and try and push the harness up behind the glovebox so it wont get in the way.

Then move those 2 cream colored slides out of the way (they just push over) and that triangular section with all the ribs will swing down and drop off and the filter will fall out at you.

 

Are these the cream colored clips that slide off to the side? (red arrows)

Hi, does anyone have a video link on how to change the cabin air filter in a 2013 SLK250? I can only find a video for a 2014-2015 SLK250, or one for a SLK230 online. Would these be the same for my car? Thank you.
