Hi Everyone

I am looking into maybe changing the wheels to slightly larger ones and I can see loads of posts on wheels, offsets etc.

I can see that the wheels are slightly bigger on the back than the front which is the case of my 17" factory alloys I want 18" wheels with either 7.5 or 8.5 on front and 1" wider on the back, But everywhere it mentions offset?

Can somebody explain what Offset actually means please, I have googled it but the answers are a bit technical.

Also any other advise would be appreciated

Thanks in advance ( I have searched on here but there must be a thousand posts mentioning offsets so would take ages to trawl through all the threads)

If you check here :

http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/information/fitting_chart/mercedes-benz

You can see the wheel offsets for the different wheel sizes for the Slk .

The higher the wheel offset the further inwards the wheel will be !
If the chart says you need ET 35 and you get rims with an ET of 40 , you'll need 5mm spacers to bring the wheel back to it's ideal pisition .

You don't neccessarily need wider rims on the rear to be able to put on wider tyres , most of the sets you'll find ( especially after market ones ) will be the same size for all four .
