Having escaped the clutches of Contract Hire and gone for an older (4 years) car that is all mine, I want to treat it. I thought it was staggeringly good value and want to go a little further.

What have people bought for the car to make it feel more theirs? ... or a bit more special? ... or just something you're really pleased with?

I want to spend a little more. I'm not looking for cheap but I like good value (don't we all?). I'm ok with DIY but not keen on dismantling too much ... yet ;-)

The car's a CLK250d Sport AMG Line 9G Tip in black with light grey leather. DAB NTG4.7 (I think) and SPEEDTRONIC but not much in the way of add-on packs.

This is the link to one R172 mod thread with LOTS of good ideas to choose from. Good luck.. pls remember, once you start modding, there is no end. It is a disease.

You. Have. Been. Warned.

Installing Garmin NUVI 50LM's in both my 2015 GLK350 and 2005 SLK350. Compared to Garmin, the MB navigation systems built into COMAND suck. If anything, the one on the GLK sucks the worst. Can almost forgive lack of touch screen and the clunky, counter intuitive, user interface on something from '05, theyt had ten freakin years to improve it and they didn't.. If that's not bad enough, I think asking people to pay $200+ each year for map updates is outrageously greedy (though, arguably, nowhere near as bad as BMW asking them to pay to use features like heated seats), especially given that you can get a GARMIN system, with a touch screen, a far better user interface, and LIFETIME FREE MAP UPDATES for well under that..

After owning three SLK, a 170, 171, and now a 172. The 171 and 172 I got the smart top for each. Enjoyed it on the 171 and when getting 2013 SLK that was on the top of my list to install. The smart top has around a done thing you can change or do other than putting the top up or down. A must-have in my book.

I have to admit I took my son out for a toodle about today on one of those overcast "nearly spitting" type days, and I'd have been more likely to go top down for most of it, if we didn't need to pull over when the weather kicked off. Definitely on my list now :) . Thanks.

Swapping out my Standard MB radio for a more modern (at the time 2013) Alpine INE-W940 head unit and 500 watt amp that does everything well. Second would be 19 inch chrome AMG knockoff wheels for car shows. Third would be the smart top.

Installing exhaust flap simulators on my 55 so the flaps are open 100% of the time.
Sounds amazing with a deep V8 rumble with the roof down but Only slightly louder with roof up so win win.
