Hi everyone, great forum and lots of great info on here. I Just became an owner of a red with two tone red/black leather SLK230 and wow what have i been missing very impressive. I had a baby Merc before, Smart Roadster ;) now I feel all grown up.

Can someone tell me where you find the colour code, the body is immaculate but for one stone chip and I went to the local store and there was not one red Mercedes stick.

Thanks in advance

Welcome from SE County Durham. There should be a label under your bonnet or by the door catch with the paint code on it.

Hi Woolly, I will have a look again, I saw the plate in the drivers door but it only seems to have a long chassis code and a couple of other numbers. I expected to see a plate with colour xxxx. could not see anything in the engine bay. I am a newb to the car so I will look harder this time.

That would be far too easy - it's just a 3 digit number (highlighted in red in the pic below).

The reds used on SLKs include the following:-

534 fire red (feuerrot)
538 red brown (rotbraun)
540 desert red (barolo red) (barolorot)
541 storm red
542 dark red (dunkelrot)
543 strawberry red (erdbeerrot)
567 maroon (lasurrot)* (also titanite red, titanitrot)*
568 signal red (signalrot) (hellrot)
571 brilliant red (rot)*
572 ruby red (rubin)*
573 dark bordeau red (dunkelbordeauxrot)
574 spindelrot
576 red (rot)
581 inca red*
582 imperial red (imperialrot)
585 mesa red
587 cabernet red (pajettrot)*
589 jupiter red
594 ember red (glutrot)
597 saturn red*

Hi Woolly,

OK my door plate looks nothing like yours its small black square and has Daimler Benz AG Then made in Germany 582 the type 170 and some other numbers relating to weight and there's nothing under the bonnet. Looks like a trip up to Newcastle and a chat with Merc to get the info. Thanks for the help though.

So, 582 is the paint code, which is Imperial Red.

Or you can shoot me a PM with your VIN and I can pull your datacard for you. I suspect Woolly's right, but we can easily confirm via your vin.

:) No forgiveness needed. Take a look at the "can you get me my datacard" thread, loads of examples there. I have access to a number of the online MB systems thanks to the fact we buy loads of their trucks.

OK I will do some reading, I cannot send PM's until 15 posts obtained. Like you say looks like Woolly is on the ball so I will run with that code and see what I get.

Thanks to all, for the welcome and the help
