Welcome from Portland, Oregon. Enjoy the forum and the top down driving.
Hi Andrew, welcome from the Wirral.
Welcome from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Best of the Best (BOB) forum.

Talking about C or S mode??
Well, I took jbanks15 advise in one of his thread, I now use the S mode.

I did many testings for about a month now for both modes.

I find that the C mode is really nice and smooth to drive.
In the S mode, it is a wee bit jerky like a horse bolting out of the stable from standstill but after getting use to it, one should know how to control the accelerator pedal. Then it will be fine but still not as smooth as the C mode.

But strangely enough, it give better mileage.
With 30 liters on C mode = 200 km
With 30 liters on S mode = 220 to 230 km

I suppose because on S mode it take off from second gear.

Anyway I am glad to found this out here & using S mode all the times.

Thank you & have a nice day

Hello and welcome from SW France..:smile::smile:

Both modes have their uses.... read all about it... then go and give them a whirl..everyone has their favourite..

We use S mode mostly, as most of our roads are narrow, twisty and hilly.

good luck 0:)

S mode for the R171, starts from first gear.
C mode starts from second gear.

For "time" economy, S mode.
For "fuel" economy, not much difference unless you drive like grandpa/grandma

Hi Andrew, welcome from Barrhead, Scotland.
Hi
Good day.
Yup, I do drive a slow speed at about 60 to 80 kph most of the time
unless I have a few & in the middle of the night on the highway
with the top down & with techno music on > zoom > up to 230kph.

Yup, I am an old guy in my 60'
Best toy I ever bought but cheaper than my old Merc E300

Thank you & have a nice day.

Welcome...

I haven't noticed much difference in mpg for either..... but I must be the only person on here who prefers 'C'.......

I like to use the torque. 'S' mode makes it to revvy for me, a lot of noise for not a great deal of difference in performance (I wonder what the 'on paper' difference is?), and I don't think its suits the GT character of the car....

(personal opinion of course, and you should take into account I have been driving high performance turbo diesels for a few years prior which of course cant rev very high....)
One of the activities at AMG Driving Academy is the drag race where you compete in different AMG models (i.e., E63 vs CLS63). Recommendation from the instructor in our class: Use C-mode in non-4Matic cars. There will be less tendency to spin the wheels when starting in 2nd gear. We tried it both ways, and times were better for us beginners. S mode would be a choice for the very skilled amongst us (that you, serg?).

Hi Hui,

Thanks for the info, I concur. Sport always and Comfort for stop start traffic and SNOW!! Just learned that today. Heavy snow here in Scotland.

Sport is the most economical mode

The deal is, sport may be jerky but uses the engine more efficiently. Comfort ideal for snow/ice and stop start traffic.

Enjoy:laugh:
