Happen to know the mass difference between the 18 and 17 wheel?

Perhaps something like 48lbs vs 43lbs?
The 17's are genuine MB wheels and at least 5lbs lighter.. maybe even more than the after market 18's .
I was also running a 235 on the 18's ,225 on 17's
So a bit more rubber to factor in also!

I see ... -5lb sounds about right (?)
Just figured less unsprung weight (say -10%) at each corner so handling would be snappier

I do know going from 48lb (oem 18s) to 41lb (forged 18s) does indeed make a difference

Handling is alot more snappier, and you are correct, the less unsprung weight the better as far as Im concerned..it's certainly an improvement, I used to have 18 inch OZ superturismo gt's on my audi TT and they where 7 lbs lighter than the standard wheel, that car was awesome in the twisty's (y)

On 17's Steering is lighter, slik feels more alive through the gears and handles better...as I found out yesterday on some very fast twisty back lanes..
18's look nice ,but 17's are far better all round..
It felt like a trackday weapon!
You just sealed my decision to go with 17" rims as part of brake upgrade to SLK350. I was eyeing 18" rims, but I was concerned that I'd trade ride quality for look. Thank you!

My SLK is in to the body shop after it’s wings were bubbled and rusting, yet another chapter in the never ending story of how to spend money money money !!!
I serm to spend more time taking the car from garage to mot station to body shop with very little driving pleasure being derived!!!
Just some of the sad sights of my wings
I can only hope to get some driving done after this episode.
it’s had everything done now
Sub frame, springs all round, roof ECU, drivers door ECU, osr light cluster, wheels all refurbished. Etc etc
Happy motoring 😊😊😊
