Ever since the Golf 6 R came out, expensive hot hatchbacks have been all about how well you can launch from 0 to 100 km/h using your AWD. Today, we can show you a new chapter of that story, the Mercedes-AMG A35

This car was launched a couple of months ago and enjoyed a nice European launch in Spain, where the roads are nice, and the weather is good. And from there, we have this first video of the 0 to 100 launch, thanks to Automann-TV.

The YouTuber is known for clean, well-edited videos of performance cars, and he gave us everything we wanted to know about the A35 except a high-speed run. This wasn't possible due to the speed limits.

In any case, the A35 sits below the A45 and competes directly with the Golf R, Audi S3, and BMW M140i. If you're careful, you might be able to see its output numbers flashing on the screen: 225 kW, which is equivalent to 306 PS, and 400 Nm of torque.

The 2-liter turbo is hooked up to a 7-speed twin-clutch automatic and 4Matic, which is electromechanical unlike the one on the old A45, so it responds faster. That's why in the exterior shot of the car's launch, you can see the rear wheels turning even before the rears start to slip.

The car was timed at 4.7 seconds to 100 km/h, which is not indicative of its real speed since most of the time you won't be revving your engine and mistreating your clutch pack like that. But we do also remember Automann videos showing the Golf R being exactly as fast. Also, the Leon Cupra waging with AWD is very close.

But even saying that, it's impossible not to fall in love with the A35 as a hot hatch fan. It makes AMG badges cheaper, has decent looks and even the mode selectors with screens on the steering wheel, like the C63 facelift. It's awesome!

I find it fascinating what MB can pull out of the 4 Banger compared to the SLK 32 with 2 more cylinder and the new A45 is not even out yet.

The A35's 302 horsepower peaks at 5800 to 6100 rpm, while the maximum 295 lb-ft of torque

SLK 32
Mercedes' estimated performance of 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds maximum power outpup of 354PS available at 6100 rpm, and a maximum torque of 450Nm available from 4400 rpm,
