It is nice weather today and I decided to finally assemble the central console.
As I have not moved the car for about 3 months (up and down the front yard doesn't count) I had the desire to move the rooftop too.
Well as you can see it is time to read the DIY section, decide on what kind of glue I need, etc.
Few questions to those who did that:
Is the lining machine washable?
Is semi-expanding spray glue acceptable?
Is it better to have the whole "cavity" filled with insulation?
How much of a pressure is needed for the glue you used?

Different angles attached as the focus ain't the best.
EDIT
Different colours?

Well now you've gone and done it, the old saggy headliner scenario 🙃

Green or Turquoise or Pink Faux Suede would look nice in "Da Dude" :ROFLMAO:

I've seen it and as write up and in person (the blue one) but is been a while and materials, descriptions...that was the reading I mentioned. 2-3 times I see (as of work) foaming glue at screwfix and the brand doesn't ring any bells. So they are running on the back of my head as steps and preparations and...
Regrettably the links you shared are no longer "live" in the bay and I really have considered the black as an option. The other option is black self adhesive insulation, yours is black rubber with aluminium foil, right?
Is this something like yours?

I used an upholstery adhesive - Trim Fix - that comes out like silly string and goes all over the place until you get a grip on it 🙃

The Aluminium Foil that you've seen is some soundproofing sheets that I had kicking about and I found a new home for them in the roof when I redid the liner in the silver one, it makes a difference on the audibles and heavy rain is definitely quieter but it has nothing to do with what you need to be doing ..

From the photos, it looks like your scrim foam has just about given up the ghost so you may well be better off getting a metre of a foam-backed material ..

This looks to be a decent price and includes one can of Trim Fix which is just enough for a metre:

So some notes, the rubberised (PU..) whatever vinyl has 3 extra "patches" 2 on a side and one on the front-top of windshield frame.
Side ones being overlapped with a 3mm wide glue, were easy to remove.
The front one however, that bxxxxxxxxd is about 1 cm over the vinyl and that glue is seriously stuck there.
On the other side (the part that faces the roof) it actually rips off the "material" that looks like strings on top of the headliner(or just a layer of paper).
In the process of "separation" the vinyl from the "reinforced" cloth pieces, the vinyl is being stretched too much.

However it went off the headliner pretty easy, up until the moment it reached that metal ring, holding the plastic cover.
Trying to slide it out (not breaking a thing) reached to the conclusion that is one hell of a pressed ring.

This is why I didn't attempt to remove the ring.
If you go straight over the top of it with your new chosen material, you can quite clearly see/feel where the ring is and by my calculations you should therefore be able to cut the hole out with an exacto knife or similar and the plastic bung should slide into the hole and overlap any discrepancies that you might create

As Red has pointed out, it's cleaner to leave it covered and in 18yrs of ownership, not once have I had to manually open the roof but I know where the hole is so I'll cross that bridge when I get to it :p

You're doing well so far (y)

Everything on my headliner board came off clean except a narrow piece of clear tape that went along the front where the 3 screws attached to the roof panel. I left that tape in place and covered right over it.
Also, I overlapped the headliner fabric all around the edges of the headliner board. I reinstalled the headliner by myself...it was a little snug going into the channel above the rear glass but I got it in there. I could have not overlapped that section and left it flush to make it easier to reinstall....that's something you might want to consider.

I pretty much followed this procedure:

I was thinking about blue, but it wasn't described if moisture repellent.
So decided to go black with fire and moisture resistant...

I've got blue in The Blue One (oddly enough) - that's just a heavy linen material that I got off of a market stall for about £4 and glued it over the old scrim foam, it's ok for first attempt but the faux suede rocks in The Silver One

So when you're car's burnt to the ground you will still have the headliner. And even better, despite the efforts of the fire department it won't even be wet. I like your thinking :ROFLMAO:.
You must be A Mind Reader!
Exactly what I was thinking of!
