Hello all,
It has been quite a while since I last posted on the site--I sold my old SLK55 about a year and a half ago and purchased a Cadillac CTS-V in its place. However, I truly miss my old roadster so much and decided that I should get the new SLK55. I have been doing a lot of research and reading up on the car and was wondering if anyone has any feedback about the new AMG. Another thing I was wondering was if anyone has any advice to knock down the price. I would be completely open to buying a used 2012 SLK55 AMG, but it seems to new to find a used example, but I would love any advice if anyone knows of any used 2012 SLK55. However, if I buy new, I really want to get the price down to about $60,000 if that is possible. Please let me know if any of you have any advice to knock down the price on a new SLK55 or any special place to find an incredible deal.
I really appreciate all of your advice and feedback and thank you so much for all of it!!!

Best of luck in your search - I'm not sure that 2013 prices have been set in stone yet, but I've heard $67.5 as a base, and I suspect not too many dealers are ordering "just" base cars...

I hate to say it, but this will likely not happen. The base price of a 2012 model is $67,500 with NO OPTIONS AT ALL. And, even then, 95% of all dealers give you the line "Sorry, we don't discount AMGs." But if you persist, some of them will sell it at invoice which is roughly 7% below MSRP.

If the Conquest program (Mercedes discount if you have ANY other car. i.e. I have a Ford Expedition) kicks back in, you might be eligible for $2,000 off the price of the car.

In this case, your $67,500 * 0.93 = $62,775 - $2,000 = $60,775. So that's pretty close, but you are still over the price you want to pay with NO OPTIONS AT ALL. This means you will miss out on the KEYLESS GO, amazing Lighting package, the pretty much required COMAND Multimedia package, your choice of a Panorama roof style--oh yes, and that awesome carbon-fiber trim :)

The car comes very well equipped, with some options standard on the AMG that are options on the 250/350. But there are some that are necessities. In this case, all the ones above I mentioned are my personal "must haves."
:)

P30 (AMG Handling Package) is picked usually for the matte black wheels it provides. Most people don't do enough research on it which ultimately reveals that it is a bunch of track upgrades if you plan to track the car. i.e. cornering improvements, top speed de-limiter, a much tighter AMG Performance suspension, etc. Probably not the best choice for an everyday driver on our cities crappy roads.

Hope this helps.

However, if I buy new, I really want to get the price down to about $60,000 if that is possible. Please let me know if any of you have any advice to knock down the price on a new SLK55 or any special place to find an incredible deal.

In my quest to get an E63 wagon I have been told by a couple dealers, including MB Buckhead which is one of the ~25 or so AMG Performance dealerships, that AMG has really cut down on the numbers of AMG cars that dealers can stock that have not been specifically ordered by a customer. My salesman at Buckhead said they usually only have 1 or 2 "not spoken for" AMGs on hand at any given time.

They also are not giving much, if any discounts, on AMGs and are really tight with even allowing test drives in fear of putting miles on the cars.

This is very different from when I got the SLK55 in '07 when there were 3 SLK55 alone on their lot and a total of 15-20 AMGs of various models on site. I also was allowed to take a SLK on a 50 minute test drive. Times are a changing.

If you can't get a 2013 SLK55 AMG at invoice, walk away. There are dealers that WILL sell it at invoice, at least here in the Denver area!

Now, below invoice, I don't see that happening...

Good luck.

They also are not giving much, if any discounts, on AMGs

Congratulations - and don't forget. I'll happily fit a smarTTop module for you - will just cost a couple of beers (oh, plus a return flight back to MME :D ).
